Work Experience Opportunities
Can you offer a work experience placement?
Each July, Year 12 pupils complete a week long work experience placement. Pupils also request work shadowing or experience over a longer period of time. We would love to offer opportunities to work alongside alumni and parents. As an employer, you can give support, guidance and insight about how your business or industry functions and impart the passion you have for your work. Our pupils are talented and capable individuals who could be given the opportunity to support your business in a particular area of need, or be given a small and exciting project to investigate and report on.
If you, or your company, could offer a work experience placement please complete our expression of interest form. We will match up suitable pupils and contact you with the next steps. Please note we may not follow up immediately.

Ocean Stewardship Programme: Expedition in Cambodia
Old Waconian, Claire Ogg, works for an NGO, the Song Saa Foundation, in Cambodia. They are opening up their volunteering program again in 2024 and are looking to recruit. It is a paid for experience, with funds going towards the running of their projects to support the local communities, and structured outcomes for the volunteers. It is particularly aimed at those who are hoping to study marine biology and environmental conservation, and those with a passion for the marine ecosystem.
For more information please read this flyer and visit https://songsaafoundation.org/get-involved. If you're interested Claire is happy to do a zoom call to discuss details further. Please email charlotteaspin@chschool.co.uk to be put in touch with her. Additional information from Claire:
"We are set up to take over 18s and the program is perfect for gap years or for those already at uni that want to gain experience in the field. We currently only take divers with a basic qualification (e.g. PADI Open Water), and we can complete the Advanced Open Water course on site, which is needed to survey with us. With the added bonus of living in Cambodia, which is an incredible country to explore.
To get the most out of the expedition we recommend coming for a minimum of 4 weeks. Food and accommodation at our field base are included in the expedition price, however flights, visas and transfers to the field base are not. 4 weeks for fully qualified advanced divers US$2,550. For divers only qualified to open water level, the advanced course can be completed for an additional $300. At certain times of year we can run shorter projects of about 2 weeks, and could also support snorkel only expeditions."

Apprenticeship Updates
Earn, learn and qualify with an ACCA accountancy apprenticeship
Accounting opens up lots of job possibilities, not just in finance. Accountants can have interesting careers, work in different countries, live well, and make a positive impact. Apprenticeships offer an exciting alternative to the traditional university route. They let students kickstart their careers, avoid student debt, and get hands-on experience in accounting. It's a great option for those who feel ready to enter the workforce.
How can young people benefit from doing an ACCA apprenticeship?
Students can earn while they learn by combining practical work experience and study
They will be employed in a relevant finance-related job where they will learn from real-life situations, get paid and study for a globally recognised qualification.
Apprenticeships are fully funded, so there are no tuition fees to consider and because they will be working, they will earn a salary too
An ACCA apprenticeship will open the door to endless career possibilities in every industry from racing to renewables, football to fashion. Finance is everywhere!
Students will be well on their way to becoming an ACCA member – opening up a whole host of career opportunities.
They will join a diverse global community of over 247,000 members and 526,000 future members.
