GCSE

In Year 10 you will embark upon Component One (8201/C) on a three term carousel in painting, ceramics, textiles, eventually specialising in your chosen specialism from April in the Summer Term.

One overarching theme of Urban Decay will underpin all work created. You will look to develop more sophistication in your skill set as you acclimatise to your GCSE study. You will follow AQA assessment criteria and gather research, observe through drawing and photography, explore artists, materials and techniques whilst developing ideas for your final pieces before realising your intentions.

You will opt in to your chosen discipline at the end of Year 10 to complete your final pieces. Connecting your ideas and annotating your intentions is paramount to success. All work completed will contribute to Component One 60%.

In Year 11 you will look to realise their intentions and showcase the skills developed from Year 10. You will complete 2 projects 1) Trial Examination 60% 2) Externally Set Assignment 40%. Working within your chosen specialist area you will look to enhance your skill set and work towards your target grade. You will follow the AQA assessment objectives and be taught in workshops, small groups and 1:1 tutorial settings.

You will follow a teacher led project for the trial exam and an independent line of enquiry for the ESA. Each project will result in a final outcome in either painting, ceramics or textiles. You must work in your chosen specialist discipline. Outcomes must demonstrate sophistication and a highly developed nature to secure 9-7 grades. A 10 hour examination will complete the ESA in May and all work completed will be exhibited within the department for AQA moderation purposes.
