In the Autumn Term you will gain an introduction to the Formal Elements of Line, Shape, Form, Tone, Texture, Space, Pattern and Colour. You will learn to observe and record your ideas with accuracy and skill. Handling new media and controlling a range of techniques whilst drawing, making and creating. You will practice each skill in isolation, apply the skill, explore artists, craftspeople and designers, create a range of observational studies in both drawn and photograph format.
Within the Spring Term you will then apply these skills in an extended project exploring ideas surrounding identity and appearance within the disciplines of Painting, Ceramics, Textiles and Photography. You will plan and design a final outcome in either painted, ceramic or textile and realise your intentions.
In the Summer Term after the completion of the extended projects you will go 'Back to Basics' participating in a range of drawing tasks to embed skills for Year 8 study.
You will expand upon your understanding of the formal elements of Art and build a range of skills to a higher level. Work will be delivered in stand alone workshops exploring the theme of Flora and Fauna in painting, ceramics, textiles and photography. You will be encouraged to explore media, take risks, investigate properties and experiment with materials not experienced in Year 7. Work will be presented in a sketchbook format as a series of outcomes. Drawing will underpin most tasks and you could be taught a technique which relates to specific artists. The key focus upon the year is Exploration.
Classes are split into A and B and you will undertake a carousel of arts activities and are taught in two 9 week blocks rotating between group A and B.
You will embark upon a pre-GCSE project which spans the entire year. You will work through a 3 term carousel of painting, ceramics and textilesapplying skills that have been developed throughout KS3.
Through your marksheet you will be introduced to GCSE assessment terminology and begin to familiarise yourselves with the AQA Assessment Objectives. You will gather research, observe through drawing and photography, explore artists and media, develop skills, design and refine developed ideas and realise intentions through a final piece. All work will connect to the same format used at GCSE and so begin to engage you with connecting ideas and the creative journey. All assessment will take place in a similar manner to that of GCSE lessons.
