Puzzlecake Software publishes browser extensions, apps, and other tools. This policy covers all of them, and each product also has its own section below. Services our products work with, such as a learning management system, have their own privacy policies.
Our products run on your computer or phone. What a product saves, such as your settings, stays in your browser's or device's storage for that product.
A product that works with a service you already use connects to it directly from your device, with your own sign-in, and only reads or changes what it needs to. If a product accesses information in your Google account with your permission, its use and transfer of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
If you use your browser's or device's sync, such as Chrome Sync or Firefox Sync, a product's settings may sync through it. Products sync settings, not the content they work with.
Exports, downloads, and copies are created on your device, and we never receive them. Products use their permissions only as described in their sections and store listings.
Collect personal information on servers of ours, or receive the content you work with.
Sell, rent, trade, or share personal information.
Show ads, or use analytics, tracking, or profiling.
Download and run code from the internet. Each product runs only the code it was published with.
If a product ever needs to send information anywhere else, its section and store listing will say what, where, and why before that version is released.
Some products show information about other people, such as the students in a course. They show only what your own account can already see, and we never receive it. You and your organization remain responsible for how it's used, including under laws such as FERPA.
Our products are made for adults, such as instructors and staff, and aren't directed to children under 13. They send us no information about anyone.
Saved information stays on your device until the product removes it, you clear it in the product's settings, or you uninstall the product. Synced settings can be removed through your sync service. We hold none of your information, so there's nothing for us to look up or delete, but you're welcome to contact us.
Saved information is protected by your device and browser, such as your device's sign-in and disk encryption. Anyone who can use your device account may be able to see it, so keep your device locked.
Browser extension for Google Chrome and add-on for Mozilla Firefox
Canvas Better Roster improves the People page of Canvas courses with email, tags, and groups columns, copying of student email addresses, CSV and Excel downloads, column colors, and access report links. On a course's Gradebook, it shows each student's email in the Student column.
What it reads
From the Canvas site you're using, through Canvas's API and your existing sign-in: the course's people (names, email addresses, SIS IDs, and each enrollment's section, role, and status), sections, groups and their members, and tags. It only reads; it never changes anything in Canvas. It also reads the People and Gradebook pages to add its features, and shows Gradebook emails only while student names are showing. On the People page, it notices when Canvas saves a group or tag change from Canvas's own requests (their addresses and, for some, whether they change groups or tags), without reading Canvas's replies.
Who it talks to
Only the Canvas site you're using. It never contacts Puzzlecake Software or any other server.
What it saves on your device
Settings: its on/off switches, color palette, colored or hidden columns, and any extra Canvas sites you add, synced through Chrome Sync or Firefox Sync if you use it.
Saved roster lists: each course's people and the details above, so emails show right away; every load still checks them against Canvas. They're never synced, are kept separately for each Canvas account, are removed after 30 days unused (40 at most are kept), and can be cleared anytime with Clear saved email lists in its settings, or by uninstalling.
Files and copies: CSV and Excel downloads are created on your device, and Copy student emails uses your clipboard.
Permissions it uses
Access to Canvas People and Gradebook pages at instructure.com addresses; storage for its settings and saved lists (in Chrome, unlimited storage, so large courses fit); and scripting and optional site access, only for Canvas sites with their own addresses that you add and approve.
Data collection
None, as declared to Firefox and on its Chrome Web Store listing.
