My educational leadership philosophy is to embody the qualities of a leader I would be proud to follow. I believe that a great leader not only motivates and inspires others but also fosters leadership qualities within them, empowering each individual to become the best version of themselves. My goal is to be an inclusive leader who recognizes and amplifies the strengths of all team members, ensuring every voice is heard and valued. I am committed to being a thought leader in education, inspiring students to think creatively and explore the vast potential of technology.
My dedication lies in driving change to dismantle inequitable systems within education. I aim to challenge and disrupt antiquated practices, ensuring they evolve to meet the needs of our scholars of tomorrow. I am passionate about learning from global educational technology solutions and best practices, constantly seeking to refine my approach and achieve my life goals. As a devoted leader, I pledge to remain a lifelong learner, continuously striving to advance equitable education for all learners.
To become a great leader, it is essential to surround myself with other great leaders. I plan to maintain a strong connection with my mentor, gaining valuable experience through interning for her and leveraging her extensive network. I have been a guest host on her podcast, Educational Equity Emancipation, speaking on different issues around the current state of the public education system. This opportunity allows me to start working towards one of my goals while trying out my dissertation as the topic of discussion. Staying actively involved with the alumnae chapters of both my undergraduate and graduate schools will also be a priority, as these connections will link me to like-minded individuals who share similar goals and missions.
In my quest to be a change leader, active community involvement is crucial. By engaging with community members, I can understand their genuine needs and aspirations, enabling me to lead more effectively and make a meaningful impact. Volunteering is extremely important to me. I have intentionally expanded my efforts to network with other educators, entrepreneurs, and thought leaders across the nation. Additionally, I have volunteered several times this past spring semester with two of my favorite organizations, DiverseWorks and the Spelman College Alumnae Houston Chapter. Through these connections and community engagements, I aim to cultivate a robust network of support and collaboration, enhancing my leadership capabilities and driving positive change. This will also help with one of my long-term goals of filming a documentary.
Equity. My vision is to achieve true equity for all students, especially those from marginalized groups who have lived without privilege, access, and representation. I am committed to empowering those who feel powerless, ensuring every student receives a quality education. Unfortunately, not every school has access to the resources necessary to provide this. The disparity in available resources severely limits students' exposure to educational technology and STEM-related careers. This lack of access creates significant gaps between well-resourced communities and those that are underserved. My goal is to bridge this divide by partnering with organizations and community leaders to create more opportunities for those who are often overlooked. Through these collaborations, we can work towards a future where every student, regardless of their background, has the tools and support needed to succeed.
Through visualization and daily affirmations, I cultivate a positive energy that propels me toward my aspirations and dreams. By speaking about my goals as if they are already achieved, I reinforce my belief in their attainment. I align myself with individuals who have experienced what I aim to experience and accomplished what I strive to achieve. Regular journaling and creating vision boards are essential practices that keep me focused and motivated, serving as constant reminders of my goals. Additionally, creating checklists allows me to track my progress and celebrate each completed task, reinforcing a sense of accomplishment and forward momentum.
I am committed to honoring my body by making time for rest, exercise, and savoring the journey. I do not want to rush through this precious time. Life is fundamentally about the journey, not just the destination, and I aim to appreciate each moment of this process. By embracing every step, I ensure a balanced and fulfilling experience that nurtures both my physical well-being and my overall happiness.
