Important Attendance Information
One of the hardwired practices that we engage in as a District, is a continual improvement process, where we review processes, procedures, and programs to assure that we are operating at our best.
The virtual program was a new learning ecosystem that was added as an educational option for our students. With the continuous improvement process, we made important changes to our virtual programming this year based on this process, to assure that we are setting our virtual students up for the most optimal experience possible.
After a recent review of our current, virtual program, the following adjustments will be made moving forward to assure continued success for our students.
Attendance:
Students who are not meeting the 20 hour engagement requirement will be marked unexcused. This will show up in Infinite Campus as virtual unexcused from this point forward; a change from the current marking of unexcused exempt. To assure that our virtual student attendance is in line with our in-person attendance tracking system, virtual students who are meeting the minimum engagement requirements of 20 hours per week will be marked present.
Please be reminded that if your child has a legitimate reason for not attending, please call the school attendance office to report the absence. Truancy parameters will be enforced in the same manner as our in-person learners.
The attendance expectations have been communicated in the Virtual Learning Handbook.
Attendance Expectations
CFAUSD Virtual Learning Option students are obligated to attend based on active time in learning and progressing in their lessons. (see below)
When a medically related condition, appointment or illness prevents your child from completing assigned daily minutes on a school day, please contact his or her Virtual Learning teacher to make arrangements to make up the school time. Absences should be reported no later than 4 PM on the day they occur.
Unexcused absences or lack of active minutes or work completion will be handled as truancy cases and may lead to a juvenile court referral. The school district will determine whether or not reported absences are ‘excused’ or ‘unexcused.’
Secondary students may complete the minimum active time on lessons at any time in a 24-hour period. It is recommended that parents and guardians assist students to set reasonable work times to meet family obligations and preferences.
Secondary students will be expected to meet minimum active time engagement in Wisconsin Virtual courses.
Virtual Learning Teachers will set up weekly virtual meetings or phone calls with single families or groups of students. This is a vital part of the support CFAUSD teachers provide for families.
Examples of meetings may include: group discussions, Q&A sessions, test preparation, lectures, lesson explanations, group activities, games, social opportunities, skills practice, etc.
Virtual learning students are expected to participate in 30-60 minutes of virtual meetings with teachers each week.
Communication from Virtual Learning teachers will be in the form of email, Class Dojo (Elementary) or Remind (MS, HS). Parents / Guardians and students should expect to check these messages daily and respond, if applicable, within 24 hours.
