CHHS Theatre Program
Theater is a class a student will take to get an easy "A". However, this theater class doesn't operate like that. We are a big family here at CHHS and we value each and every one of our members, big and small! We do our best to put on the most entertaining performances in the most professional way possible! This course not only teaches students the basics of theater and its many parts, but it also teaches our students how to collaborate, problem solve, critically think, and much more! CHHS Theater is a positive learning environment for all students and we welcome all who embrace it. So what are you waiting for?! Join theater today!
Intro to Theatre
Intro to Theatre is an introductory class to the world of theatre. In this class, beginning theatre students will start out learning how to just stand in front of a group of people and feel comfortable. After the scariness of that wears off, they begin learning about the basic vocabulary of theatre, stage directions, theatre etiquette, audience etiquette, the skills of improvisation, and introduction to theatre history. This class fulfills the VPA requirement, is open to all students and no audition is required. Students leave Intro to Theatre with new levels of confidence, improved poise, the ability to speak with confidence and express themselves through body language. For many, after their first year of Theatre, they feel that they have found a home in the chaos of high school; a place where they can truly be themselves, feel accepted by their peers, and and truly relax while also challenging themselves to reach new heights in their socialization skills.
Advanced Theatre
Advanced Theater is a class all about dedication, commitment, and learning to love the projects you work on. This course is more rigorous than intro to theater but it offers a wider range of skills to learn and develop. As well as more opportunities to grow your confidence on and off stage. All of this combined helps them with auditioning for CHHS productions! Advanced Theater is a diverse class with a wide range of talent and skill, it's one goal is to build our students up and help them on their journey to become professional human beings.
Production and Performance
The CHHS Production and Performance class is the highest level of theatre and is made up of students who have a deep passion for Theatre, both onstage and behind the scenes. From acting, singing, and dancing to building sets, crafting props, and sewing costumes, these students show their commitment by spending countless hours on their craft and learn skills that can help them to pursue acting after high school. The students work together, led by their fearless director to put on the shows you see on stage.
Advanced Stage Craft
Stagecraft class trains the students in all areas of theatre practice except acting. They will be learning technical aspects of theatre. You'll be able to learn the behind the scenes processes and make production work. They learn about set designs, lighting, costumes, stage makeup, media and publicity, and set building. Once they are ready and have learned about safety precautions and rules that need to be followed, they start to get working on the musical production that is upcoming. Whether that is making props, painting the set, building the set, working on promoting the play/musical, and more.
