About
The Alabama Association of Teachers of Family and Consumer Sciences (AATFCS) is a professional organization dedicated to supporting, empowering, and advancing Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS) educators across the state of Alabama. Our members are passionate teachers, leaders, and advocates who believe in the vital role FCS plays in preparing students for successful careers, strong families, and meaningful lives.
We serve as a collaborative network that promotes excellence in education through professional development, leadership opportunities, curriculum support, and advocacy for high-quality FCS programs. AATFCS is committed to strengthening the profession by fostering innovation in teaching, encouraging student engagement through organizations such as FCCLA, and supporting educators at every stage of their careers.
Together, we work to elevate Family and Consumer Sciences education in Alabama—championing life skills, workforce readiness, and the well-being of individuals, families, and communities.
Since the founding of the Alabama Association for Career and Technical Education (ALACTE), our Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS) division has been committed to bringing FCS educators together to collaborate, grow, and support one another. From the beginning, our division has served as a professional home where teachers could share ideas, exchange resources, and build meaningful connections that strengthen classroom instruction across the state.
One of the cornerstones of this work has been our annual summer conference, which has consistently provided valuable opportunities for professional learning, networking, and inspiration. These conferences have allowed educators to stay current with industry trends, instructional strategies, and emerging technologies while fostering a strong sense of community among FCS teachers.
Throughout the years, our members have played a vital role in keeping Family and Consumer Sciences education relevant, innovative, and resilient in the face of changing educational standards, workforce demands, and student needs. Their dedication has ensured that FCS programs continue to equip students with essential life skills, career readiness, and leadership development opportunities.
As part of our ongoing commitment to growth and advocacy, the division voted in July of 2024 to unify with the Association for Career and Technical Education (ACTE). This important step connected our organization to the national Career and Technical Education community, strengthening our voice, expanding access to resources, and opening new opportunities for collaboration and professional development. Through this unification, we continue to advance the mission of Family and Consumer Sciences education while positioning our educators and students for success at both the state and national levels.
