At Claremont Pathways ARP, there are two classes: Planets, Stars, Moons, and Comets. Class allocation is determined using a range of criteria. In general, Reception children begin in Comets Class and progress chronologically through to Stars Class. However, pupils from the same year group may be placed in different classes depending on their abilities, developmental progress, and/or sensory needs, ensuring the curriculum and environment are best suited to each individual child. As pupil numbers and needs vary each year, we maintain a flexible approach to class allocation. All decisions are made following thorough consideration of each child’s individual needs.
Learning Environment- Great attention has been given to ensure that the learning environment in Pathways ARPs meet the needs and learning styles of the children in our care. The set-up of Claremont ARP includes the following facilities:
4 main classrooms
1 room for individual and small group work (Launchpad)
2 Sensory Spaces
2 Outdoor playground (Outer Space and The Orbit)
Soft Play (under construction)
Dinner Hall
Toilets and a shower
All rooms and areas in Pathways have a clear purpose and structure with designated teaching zones which include group and independent work areas as well as area to socialise and relax. The low arousal environment with minimal distraction and stimulation is simplified by reduction of displays. The focus is on a meaningful and relevant visual information and where appropriate, the areas are clearly labelled with symbols and pictures. Visual cues in Pathways environment include visual timetables, schedules, rules, movement breaks, choice boards, Zones of Regulation etc.
At Pathways, our carefully structured environment helps children feel safe, confident, and independent. The clear layout means pupils always know where to go, what will happen next, and what’s expected of them - without needing reminders from adults.
