Ensure all students get checked in
Each site is issued an iPhone which is to be used for After School Program business only. Phones are not intended for personal use by staff or participants. This phone is property of CARD and to be securely stored at the program site. If you experience any troubles, please contact CARD for assistance.
Answer the site cell phone “(School site) after school program, this is (your name).”
Make sure staff have supplies and time to prepare.
Provide academic resources for Leaders. This includes grade level worksheets, appropriate books, a list of approved educational websites children may access, and other educational tools.
Provide staff rules and expectations for all program areas. This includes classrooms, playground, hallways, etc.
Assist with behavioral challenges.
Check in on activities and make sure they are successful.
Actively coach staff as needed and provide positive feedback.
Help with transitions and make sure students are prepared to listen and move on to the next activity
Keep track of time and space
Staff should know before it is time for an activity to end so they can clean up
When space opens up, make staff aware if they would like to utilize it
During free play, be aware of ratio and place staff accordingly.
At the end of the day, the following things should be done:
Parent support during sign out and calling for students when parents are there for pick up.
Reviewing with parents any injuries or behavior concerns/disciplinary action that was taken for their child during the program that day
Support staff with end of day chores
Locking up program supplies and valuables
At the end of each day make sure staff have time to complete all cleaning tasks; it is helpful to have a "chore chart" with all cleaning responsibilities detailed on it. You are responsible for leaving the room cleaner than you found it. This includes sweeping, wiping tables, picking up and taking out trash, taking care of lost and found, and checking restrooms for cleanliness. All program items should be neatly put away program area is to be left tidy.
There will most likely be a night custodian that can help you with things like vomit, bathroom problems, etc. Also, make sure to work out with your night custodian which rooms he/she wants you to lock up. They may want you to do a full school lock up and security check so make sure you talk with them.
