We’re excited to welcome you as a positive MENTOR in our After School Programs!

Each day, our team provides care for approximately 1,400 children across 12 school sites. Mentors like you help create a safe, fun, and enriching environment where children can thrive after the school day ends.

And yes—it’s true, you really do get paid to play! But how we play matters. Our staff is committed to:

• Creating a safe environment where kids feel secure and supported

• Ensuring everyone has fun and feels comfortable being themselves

• Offering enriching experiences that help children grow and explore new things

This is made possible by hiring individuals who are enthusiastic, creative, and truly enjoy working with children, and who are committed to following the standards set by CARD and Chico Unified School District (CUSD).

BLAST is the name of the After School Program located on the Chico Unified elementary school campuses. Chico Unified is the main administrator of the BLAST After School Program and works collaboratively with CARD to provide after school care. 

Program Ratio: 1 staff to 15 children. The smallest program has 75 children and the largest has 135.

There are 2 enrollment options for families:

1. Chico Unified- The majority of the children are enrolled through Chico Unified at no cost (due to grant and state funding) however they must adhere to attendance requirements.

2. CARD provides limited fee based spots at select schools. Some families choose to pay for the care, either because there isn't free space available or because they do not wish to adhere to the attendance requirements.
