Curriculum

Literacy

Reader's Workshop: Reading instruction is delivered with whole group mini-lessons, shared reading experiences, small group guided reading, and independent reading practice.

Phonics: Fundations is systematic and explicit phonics instruction. Students will learn sounds using keywords and move to blend sounds into words. As the year progresses, Fundations introduces many aspects of word structure and sentence structure.

Phonemic Awareness: Heggerty is a curriculum that supports an oral and auditory understanding of sounds. Students practice isolating, blending, and manipulating sounds in words.

Writers Workshop: All students will compose a variety of narrative, informative, and opinion writing pieces. The students will use a combination of drawings, labels and written words to express their thinking. Students are encouraged to spell phonetically, stretching out sounds and recording the sounds they hear. Once students learn sight words, they are encouraged to spell those words correctly in their writing.
