Congratulations!! As you prepare for your new little one, please review the information below to assist you with your maternity/paternity/adoption leave of absence.
Prior to your child's birth:
Talk with your supervisor/principal about your plan for maternity leave. Ask your supervisor to sign the Leave Request Form.
Talk with your benefits representative about the types of leave of absence options available to you.
Talk with your benefits representative about your pay options.
Talk with your department/team about coverage.
Enter your maternity/paternity/adoption leave request in oracle and upload the corresponding documents.
If applying for FAMLI through the State of Colorado, you must apply and pay premiums for at least one quarter prior to receiving any payments (prior to the birth of the baby). You may not receive pay from CCSD and FAMLI at the same time. If you are receiving pay from FAMLI, you must be on an approved unpaid leave of absence with the District.
Review the leave of absence calendar and pay plan from your benefits representative. Let your benefits representative know right away if you have any questions.
Types of Leave of Absence Available to You
FMLA – Maternity/Paternity/Adoption – 12 weeks may be available if you have been with the District for over one year AND worked 1,250 hours during that time. This is assuming you have not used any FMLA time in the 12 months prior to your leave. If you have used FMLA time in the last year, you may have less than 12 weeks still available to you. If you are requesting FMLA for maternity leave, have your medical provider complete the Employee Physician Statement. If you are requesting paternity leave, have your partner's physician complete the Family Member Physician Statement. Maternity/Paternity leave must be taken consecutively. We do not allow intermittent maternity/paternity time off.
ADA Leave – Maternity – if you are not eligible for FMLA, ADA Leave can provide 6 – 8 weeks of job protection while you are “disabled” after giving birth. Six weeks is typical for vaginal delivery and eight weeks for cesarean. The amount of time is determined by your doctor. You may take up to 12 weeks total of maternity leave. The remaining 4-6 weeks time after the disability period will be categorized as a Leave of Absence or LOA. Leave of Absence "LOA" is not considered job protection. It is simply approved time off. If you are requesting ADA Leave of Absence, you must complete the Request Form and have your provider complete the ADA Physician Statement.
Parenting Leave - certified (teacher and SSP) employees may request to take up to one year of parenting leave. Parenting leave is unpaid time off. Requests must be in writing and must include the anticipated period of leave. Except in cases of emergency, requests will provide 30 days notice prior to the start date of the leave.

Pay Options Available to You
Leave Time – you may utilize your own leave time to pay yourself while you are on maternity leave.
Non Contact Time/Vacation Time - you may utilize your non-contact or vacation days.
Sick Leave Bank – if you are a member of the sick leave bank and you run out of your own leave time, you may be eligible for sick leave bank pay during the period of “disability” (first 6-8 weeks). Complete the certified or admin/pro tech/classified sick leave bank request forms. Those utilizing sick leave bank will go two days without pay before sick leave bank begins.
FAMLI – FAMLI is the State of Colorado’s Family and Medical Leave Insurance. The District opted out of FAMLI but you can still opt in. You must apply and pay for premiums for at least one quarter prior to making a claim for payment.
After Your Child's Birth
Email your benefits representative and let them know what date the baby was born and the type of delivery (vaginal or cesarean).
If you are adding your baby to your medical plan, create a life event in oracle and add the baby for medical coverage. Be sure to upload a copy of the birth certificate.
After you have passed the 6-8 week disability period, be sure to provide your benefits representative with a Return to Work form completed by your medical provider. This will authorize you to return to work at the completion of your leave.
Confirm with your benefits representative and your principal/supervisor the date you will return to work.
Upon returning to work, locate the nearest lactation/wellness space and ensure you have the supplies you need.
