Current 2025-2027 NHS Members
If you are already a junior member of NHS, and if you did not complete your 10 required community service hours, then you will need to complete a separate application. Link to Member Re-Application. As long as you have completed and submitted your required community service and tutoring hours and
maintained at least a 3.8 cumulative weighted GPA, your membership will continue for the '26-'27 school year.
If you do not complete your required hours or your cumulative weighted GPA falls below 3.8, your membership will be in jeopardy.
Cherry Creek High School (CCHS) recognizes outstanding students with membership in the school’s chapter of the National Honor Society (NHS). As addressed in the National Honor Society Constitution, we want “to create enthusiasm for scholarship, to stimulate a desire to render service, to promote leadership, and to develop character” in students.
Membership in the CCHS NHS Chapter is awarded to students who excel in scholarship, service, leadership, and character, as determined through an application process involving board members, faculty advisors, and teacher recommendations.
Students who are juniors or seniors in the upcoming school year and maintain a cumulative weighted GPA of 3.8 are invited to apply for membership.
Information regarding the application process is shared with students in a number of ways. This includes student flyers, faculty and student announcements, email, the school website, the NHS website, and school posters.
Students that are interested in applying are encouraged to carefully read the information on the NHS website and to complete their application carefully. Do not hesitate to reach out to a board member or faculty advisor with any questions about the application process.
Students are encouraged to review the NHS Guidelines and Expectations Agreement before applying. Students should understand the commitment they are making to the organization before seeking membership.
CCHS NHS members are also required to uphold school standards as outlined in the CCHS Conduct and Discipline Code, the CCHS Activities Code of Conduct, and the Cherry Creek School District Athletic and Activities Agreement.
Students are encouraged to complete their applications thoroughly and correctly. They should read the application instructions and deadline information carefully. Students are also encouraged to review the rubric used to score applications to understand how their application may be scored.
The Review of Applications
Submitted applications are numbered and logged as they are turned in. No fewer than six people review each application without identifying information attached.
Students receive up to 4 points in each area of the application- Character (Essay), Community Service, Leadership (School/Extracurricular Activities), and Teacher Recommendations.
Applications are scored and totaled on the Application Review Rubric. The acceptance score is 12/16.
After all applications are reviewed and scored, student names are matched with applications to finalize the new member list.
Students will receive an email notifying them of their membership status. New members will also be announced on the Cherry Creek NHS website.
Frequently Asked Questions:
If I am a current member of NHS, do I need to apply again this year?
If you did not complete your 10 required community service hours, then you will need to complete a separate application.
Will late applications be accepted?
No. Students are given a month to complete applications and can turn in the application at any time. Students should be sure to plan ahead and compete the application early.
Do applications need to be typed?
Yes. It is important for your application to be completed neatly and professionally. There are computers and printers available in numerous places on campus to assist you in meeting this expectation.
I am on the Honor Roll. Doesn’t that mean I should be a member of NHS?
Maybe, but the Honor Roll is not the same as NHS. The Honor Roll recognizes academic excellence based on grades. Students also receive Academic Letters for high grades. Membership in the Cherry Creek High School NHS Chapter is awarded to students who excel in scholarship, service, leadership, and character, as determined through an application process involving current executive board members and faculty advisors. If you maintain a cumulative weighted GPA of 3.8 or higher, you have met one of the requirements. Our application allows you the opportunity to demonstrate your strengths in character, service, and leadership. Be sure to complete your applications thoroughly and professionally.
Why should I be a member of NHS?
Being a member of NHS is an honor. Being a member of NHS also means that you have made a commitment to be a positive representative of Cherry Creek and NHS, to provide tutoring to students, to perform community service, and to attend NHS meetings. Be sure to read the NHS Expectations and Guidelines Agreement before applying.
Do I need to be a member of NHS to go to a good college?
No. It can help strengthen your college applications, but your focus for college admission should be on being the best “you” that you can be. Joining NHS to just put it on your resume does not benefit you, NHS, or your college application process.
I was not accepted into NHS and realized that I forgot to include something on my application. Can I re-submit my application?
No, but rising juniors can apply again next year as a rising senior. Be sure to be thorough and complete on your application. As you apply for college admission, college scholarships, internships, and employment, it is important that you present yourself effectively and completely. The same is true here.
I do not have any community service experience. I want to join NHS to be involved in community service. What do I do now?
The application has a section under Community Service where, if you haven't done community service, you may describe what community service you would like to do in the future. Thorough and thoughtful responses to this question may earn applicants up to 2/4 points in the Community Service area. If you were not accepted into NHS and don't have any community service experience, we encourage you to investigate community service options to strengthen your application for next year in order to earn more points in the area.
