Dear AP United States History Students,
We are excited that you have decided to accept the challenge of taking this Advanced Placement class. We can promise you that your experience will be tough, yet rewarding. Intrinsic in any AP course is an increased workload that will push you academically and intellectually, and, while we do want you to “get your feet wet” over the summer by doing some introductory reading, we also want you to have some time to relax before you engage wholeheartedly into this college-level experience. Thus, your summer reading is minimal. In fact, we do not want you to complete the reading until one or two weeks before you return to school for the fall semester.
Directions:
Read Chapter 1 of The American Pageant, 13th ed. You will find a copy of this chapter below. As you read take notes on the major terms of the chapter using the Chapter 1 List of Terms. As you take notes be sure to not only define the terms but also the significance of the term. Once you have read the chapter and taken your notes, answer the three Chapter 1 Short Response Questions. All three of theses resources are linked below.
Due Date:
Your due date is the first day of school! This is our first lesson and it is imperative that you have it ready to go during our first class meeting. This assignment is worth 50 points
The Textbook:
We will be using The American Pageant, 16th Edition textbook throughout the course of AP US History. This textbook is required for this course as your nightly homework will come from it. This textbook will be checked out to your from the Eaglecrest bookroom at registration so there is no need to purchase this book on your own.
We look forward to meeting and working with you next school year.
