The reading program includes the use of novels, science and social studies content, Storyworks, and HMH reading curriculum.
The writing process is used to create a variety of literary genres for an intended audience. We focus on persuasive, narrative, and informational writing with the use of the HMH writing program. Writing mechanics and grammar are taught in the context of the students' actual compositions and as needed with separate drill and exercises.
Mechanics and Grammar — CUPS (capitalization, usage, punctuation, and spelling) will be studied through meaningful word work in language class as well as in our content courses of Science and Social Studies.
Spelling/Vocabulary — Word work with a close look at Latin and Greek roots, how words are formed, the spelling patterns they know and new patterns to understand will partner with our vocabulary and spelling work within content areas.
