Biography

I was born in Washington D.C., and raised in Boulder, Colorado. As the son of a theoretical physicist and a violin teacher, I grew up with a wide variety of influences and interests. After graduating from Boulder High, I studied Literature at Bard College, Violin at Oberlin, and Art at Pratt Institute. I finished college with a degree in Film from New York University.

In the mid '80s, I wrote and produced videos and animations for educational publishers in Chicago. Ranging in topics from Math to Myths to Lasers, some of these productions went on to receive national awards for educational media. In the mid '90s, I was an Exhibit Designer for the Chicago Children's Museum.

My wife and I moved to Colorado in 1997. A month after we arrived, CCA’s founder, Dean Titterington hired me as the Technology Teacher.

Since my work at our school crosses many disciplines, I feel my teaching credentials should reflect that. I'm certified to teach Instructional Technology, Gifted and Talented, Special Education, Elementary Education, English, and Art.

My wife, Carol, is an Gifted/Talented teacher at Polton Elementary in CCSD. Elijah, my son, is a junior at CU, studying Philosophy and Political Science. Outside of school, I enjoy making music, running, reading, and solving and creating crossword puzzles. My puzzles have been published in The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Chronicle of Higher Education and other newspapers.

I feel fortunate to teach at CCA. The vast majority of our students are highly motivated, industrious, imaginative, and polite. The twenty-three years I've spent teaching here have flown by. I look forward to quite a few more.
