Real development shows through in MG TF – a new generation roadster to replace the MGF.
Beneath the attractive dart-like body line with stylish air intakes/rear deck and modish projector lights lives an amazingly different roadster.
In its heyday, the TF earned accolades from Italian car designers as the 'Most beautiful car in the world' – it is a very attractive 2-seater sports car.
With the redesigned running gear/suspension the MG engineers gave the MG TF even more agility. To the front are double wishbone suspension with coil springs - at the back is a multi-link rear axle set-up. Coupled with the 16-valve 1.8-litre K Series engine, the step-speed gearbox makes the TF feel quicker than our manual gearbox MG F 1.8 VVC - the TF has real get-up-and-go.
The MG TF has a sports auto “gearbox” with six-speed sequential 'Tiptronic' transmission – “kick the floor” and its 118bhp and 122 lb ft of torque can get the rear wheels spinning on its way to 0 to 60mph in 9.7 seconds. It lets you snap up and down the ratios Formula One style using either the gear selector or steering-wheel fingertip controls. Clutch-less gear changing whilst hanging onto the revs through winding roads is a breeze. With its lower weight to power ratio it will outstrip our 1.8 ZR 120 which also has the same racing style “Tiptronic” direct drive gearbox.
