Within an open access, community college environment we expect to engage with a diverse group of students and employees. However, we need to understand what it means to be culturally humble in order to develop inclusive spaces where we honor each other’s dignity and promote a sense of belonging for all. In this session, we will explore some of the common missteps we can make when attempting to be inclusive and learn how to continually examine ourselves to maximize our impact.

Motivation and intention can start with one step. Find out “one thing” that you can do for your wellness that can help spark and maintain healthy habits. In this session, we will discuss the mechanics of motivation, how habits are created and simple strategies to infuse wellness into a daily routine. We will include strategies related to the different dimensions of wellness, including physical, emotional, social and intellectual wellness.

This training is intended to help customer-facing staff in identifying aggressive versus threatening behavior, using proper body language and active listening techniques to de-escalate emotional conversations, and developing a safe separation strategy when the situation spirals out of control.

This session will explore the new curriculum process for courses and programs. We will take a look at how to build, revise, and delete a course and how to build, revise, and delete a CTE program. Program Chairs and Deans and others with a Curriculog account are encouraged to bring a device and learn how to log into their own account and to poke around as the demonstration is going on.

This session is a chance to hear, and more important, ask questions, about this year’s updated Student Learning Outcome (SLO) Assessment Guidelines, which lay out the college’s expectations of programs for formal assessment and reporting of student achievement on our stated SLOs outside of grading over the next three years. The new guidelines were completely rewritten this fall by a faculty team from the Learning Outcomes Assessment Committee after hearing from and working with programs and instructors over the past three years. We hope you will find them clearer and easier to understand and follow, with a reduction on busywork and an intensified focus on making assessment a genuinely meaningful activity for you and your students. Seriously!

This session will cover the Benefits Navigator Bill, HB 2835 which created funding at every community college and public university for a Benefits Navigator position to help students access SNAP food benefits, STEP (SNAP E&T program), housing assistance, and other basic needs resources. Come hear what our Benefits Navigator does for our students and how you can make referrals.

This session will focus on the legislative process, 2023 legislative priorities, advocacy with legislators, and update on bills that affect community colleges.

This session will include a step-by-step process on how to coordinate internal, external, hosted, and sponsored events, at Chemeketa Community college. We will cover the planning process, logistics, and proposed timelines. We will review the proper documentation, i.e., Facility Use Agreements, Insurance requirements, Fire Marshall requirements, safety, and facility information.This session will assist individuals who coordinate events both internally or with external customers, once a year or once a month. Additionally, attendees will receive a sample timeline, event criteria guide, and the event request form.

We’ll take a look at how the grant development process works, from the initial idea to the final report, with a focus on how grants might fit into your work. There will be time for questions and initial brainstorming on your dream project.

This session will be a facilitated group inquiry into how Chemeketa can prepare for present and future applications of AI-driven text and graphic generators. After a brief introduction to the current landscape of AI generators, participants will select subtopics to explore in small groups, report their findings, and express their perspectives on how to address the impact of this new technology.

By teaching your students about the many technologies, tools and resources available to them, you give them the power to help themselves. There are many simple resources that you can share with your students that will not only help them in your course but will give them a toolkit that will support them throughout their education and even into their careers. Additionally, by informing your students about the tools that are available to them - and teaching them how to take advantage of them, you allow them to take greater ownership of their coursework and learning.
