Program Description
Chemeketa is pleased to offer a six week, cohort based cultural competency certificate that is open to all employees. Our aim is to meet the need for thoughtful, interactive, personalized, and highly engaging experiences that communicate the importance of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging by nurturing curiosity through cultivating a profound ability to embody cultural humility. Employees who complete the six week course will be awarded a non-credit certificate in cultural competency.
Benefits of the Certification
Completion of this noncredit certificate demonstrates your commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion by awarding participants a state recognized certificate in cultural competency at no cost to employees.
Details
All Chemeketa employees may register and participate in the educational opportunities offered under this program
Six week, cohort based program is offered during the fall, winter, and spring terms each academic year
Since employees will be awarded a noncredit certificate, attendance in each of the six sessions is mandatory
Participants should be prepared to communicate their learning by developing a plan of action (this will be discussed in the last session)
Completion
Each session is tracked through a CRN. Registration for each of the six sessions within the certificate must be completed prior to the first class session.
Upon completion of the requirements, employees will receive a hard copy of the cultural competency certificate and be eligible to participate in future certificate programs offered through the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion office
Curricular Focus
This curriculum is designed to engage learners at all stages in their cultural competency journey. Participants will actively participate in each class session in small groups through thoughtful preparation prior to class when completing the required homework. The cohort based approach will allow participants to form deep, meaningful connections with their colleagues who can also be a ongoing source of encouragement and wisdom. Our outline for each week is:
Week 1: Practicing self-discovery
Week 2: Fostering cultural humility
Week 3: Embracing anti-racist actions
Week 4: Developing inclusive spaces
Week 5: Integrating equitable practices
Week 6: Creating a plan of action
