Autism Acceptance
In 1970, the Autism Society started a campaign to spread awareness, promote acceptance, and ignite change for individuals with autism. The first annual National Autistic Children’s week was held in 1972 and grew into Autism Awareness Month. The Autism Society and the Autistic Self Advocacy Network now promote Autism Acceptance Month every April, with World Autism Day on April 2nd.
