Let's Go Bicycle Education Program!
Mr. Silva brought a first-time opportunity to MOE that allowed 3rd-5th grade students to ride bikes in P.E.! In October, 3rd-5th graders enjoyed the "Let's Go" bicycle program in P.E. This grant-funded program teaches youth bike and pedestrian safety. The North Central ESD sponsors this program, giving some students the opportunity to ride a bike for the first time.
The students engaged in learning bike safety as well; this ranged from the importance of wearing helmets to being aware of their surroundings such as pedestrians and other bikers. Most students who had never ridden before were riding successfully by the end of our two week bike class! They also commented on how much fun it was and asking if we will do it again next year!
Bikes will be back next year! Thank you Mr. Silva!
HAPPY THANKSGIVING!
Having just two days of school for the week of Thanksgiving, we offered students the freedom to move about from station to station, exploring different activities at their own pace. The choices were volleyball, bowling, regular jump ropes and ankle jump ropes, basketball, hula hoops, and a fitness station.
At the end of class we talked about what we are thankful for. The #1 answer to this question was family, with friends coming in second. The relationships they have with family and friends are a very important part of their learning here at school. Parents and guardians, you are very special and your child(ren) are very thankful for you, and we are too.
Run Club is a fun, annual spring event designed to promote physical activity, physical fitness, and social comradery through running. Each day at recess, students have the opportunity to earn miles toward their run club total. As students progress, they earn necklaces and charms to signify the total amount of miles they have achieved. Additionally, ambitious students who hit the 75 mile mark earn a Run Club shirt at the end of the spring.
If you would like to volunteer and help out with Run Club, please email any of our PE staff and we can get you going in the right direction. Thanks!
Happy New Year! 2025 came quickly.
Before Winter Break we had a big request to bring back a fan favorite for 3rd-5th graders. Boom City! This is a game of throwing and catching skills, cooperation and teamwork, and as always....good sportsmanship! Ask your child about it if you have a 3rd, 4th or 5th grader!
After break Kinder-2nd grades played Alligator Island! This is a game where one student from each team attempts to tag the island before the alligator can tag them. If they escape without being tagged they get one point. Tagged or not they go back to their line and it's the next person in line's turn.
Working on ball-handling and dribbling skills. Ask your child if they can remember the cues for dribbling.....finger pads, dribble waist-high, eyes up and push the ball.
During our long rope unit, teams were asked to create a routine with their group using the long rope. They chose whether they wanted to perform in front of the class. We saw some great teamwork, perseverance and sportsmanship.
The freedom to explore different ways to jump with long ropes is exciting. There are endless ways to enjoy this fun and versatile activity.
Tumbling/Gymnastics Unit
Welcome to our tumbling unit! Students worked on somersaults, cartwheels, shoulder rolls, animals crawls such as crab walk, bear crawl and balancing activities.
Featured in the photo above and below you will see students practicing the "tripod" balancing activity. They carefully have to raise one knee at a time and balance a knee on an elbow.
