East Elementary would receive a 7400 square foot addition which would include:
Safe and secure entry
The addition would include a clearly marked single point of entry in the front of the school for guests. A new safe, secure entrance ensures that the school can control who enters the premises, reducing the risk of unauthorized persons gaining access to school grounds. The current entrance does not meet the current industry safety standards.

Learning commons
The existing office and faculty spaces would be renovated to provide an additional classroom and SPED resource room.
Renovating North wing to be dedicated preschool/kindergarten wing, including renovating vacated admin office with a additional classroom and SPED room

Spaces for remote learning, small group and one-on-one learning
Learning resources such as technology and books
Stage renovation, which improves student circulation, security, and two restrooms
Early childhood playground
The facility would receive numerous additional updates, including increasing health and safety for students and staff and improving infrastructure:
HVAC improvements to classrooms and cafeteria
The energy management controls are 44 years beyond their life expectancy and will be replaced
Classroom unit ventilators range from just past life expectancy to triple beyond life expectancy. New vertical unit ventilators will add upgraded ventilation to classrooms.
Studies show that increasing ventilation can improve student performance by 10%-14.5% and reduce the transmission and spread of infectious agents.
The cafeteria will get replacement air handling units, which are at or beyond life expectancy, one of which is original to the 1959 construction
Electrical distribution upgrades
The majority of the building’s electrical distribution is nearly double its life expectancy
Some replacement parts are difficult to find
Accessible domestic water piping replacement
The domestic plumbing distribution is original to each vintage of building, the majority of it is beyond its 50 year typical life expectancy
Roof replacement (excluding cafeteria and stage)

Last updated in 1999, it is 9 years beyond its recommended life
Improvements to the pickup/drop off area
A curb will be added to separate car traffic and foot traffic, improving safety and traffic management
Asbestos abatement allowance
ADA updates including:
Renovating bathrooms and sinks in PK and K classrooms
Updating centrally located restrooms
Updating staff restrooms
Replacing handles on original 1959 doors making them ADA compliant
Improvements include:
HVAC Controls replacement
The HVAC controls are beyond their 25 year life expectancy, the replacement controls will improve visibility and controllability.
Fire alarm system upgrade
Cheboygan High School would receive a number of infrastructure updates, including:
New HVAC controls, replacing controls installed in 1968 and 1975
Replacement of air handling units originally installed in 1968 and 1975, which would impact classrooms, the auditorium, cafeteria, band room, the Drift Inn, and the auto shop.
