Course Content
We will be covering the 7th grade New Jersey State Learning Standards for mathematics using the Eureka Math program. Please navigate to the curriculum page via the dropdown menu in the top right corner for more information.
Classroom Expectations
Give your best effort, beginning to end
Stay present and recognize when your attention is drifting
Respect others, the class environment, and yourself
Be better than the person you were yesterday
Materials
Students should have the following materials with them everyday:
Pencil
Folder and Notebook/Binder with Loose Leaf Paper (either or)
Eureka Workbook (provided by district)
Computer/Device (either school issued Chromebook or personal)
Grading
There will generally be 3-5 assignments given in a week that will be entered into the gradebook. If a student is unhappy with their grade on an assignment, they may reattempt it as many times as they wish until they are satisfied with their grade. Students can comment on the assignment in Google Classroom to notify me that they have updated their work. I will then update feedback and their score in Genesis to reflect their new work.
Assignments will be entered into one of two categories (overall percentage of marking period in parentheses):
Minor Assignments (60%): daily classwork, homework, and other small assignments
Major Assignments (40%): quizzes, tests, projects and other assignments that involve deeper/more critical thinking, or require more effort to complete
Absent/Late Work
Late Work: I believe that understanding is like a wizard: it arrives precisely when it means to. Students will not be penalized for turning an assignment in late. However, students will find it difficult to be successful with assignments if they are not keeping up with the daily work.
Absent Work: assignments will be entered as missing if they are not turned in, whether the student was present or not. This policy is designed to encourage students to make up missed work in a timely fashion so they do not fall behind.
Communication
I will contact parents at the following times if their child is receiving a grade of a D or F:
At the Interim of each marking period
At least one week prior to the final day of each marking period
The Genesis gradebook will be updated at least once a week. I recommend getting in a routine (both students and parents) of checking the online portal regularly. If you have questions, I am always available by:
Parents: e-mail or Remind message. If you would like to schedule a phone call or in person meeting, please send me an e-mail first so we can coordinate a time.
Students: e-mail or Google Classroom comment. I can also be available during Academic RAP times or after school (in person or Google Meet) for extra help.
