Homework Guidelines

* Homework is written each day in your child's homework planner, which is located in their Moose Book.

* Your child works hard at school each day and my hope is to minimize what work needs to be completed at home. Most nights will include math and reading.

As you will learn, reading is going to be a big routine for our school year and reading every night is a habit that will GREATLY support your child. Please talk to your child about the books they are reading and help them set up a routine so they remember to bring their books back to school the next day so that they can keep up their momentum.

The math is usually a review of the work that was completed at school. If you are finding the math confusing (I've been there as a parent!) then please check out the math "Homework Helpers" located in their math homework book. When possible, ask your child to explain what they are doing as this encourages reflection and understanding.

You will be notified of special projects and the timelines involved when they occur throughout the year.

Thanks so much for your support!

Spelling Words Routine

In an effort to reduce the amount of homework sent home each night we will be completing all required spelling work during the school day. New spelling words are introduced on Monday. We have joined Spelling City and will be completing activities to reinforce spelling patterns and practice spelling words.

Students can take their spelling test online during I & E on Thursday and Friday. If they take it Thursday and are not happy with their results they may take it again on Friday. I have made an audio file of each spelling word in a sentence and a google form to record their answer. They may write the words down on paper as well if this works best for them.
