The number one rule in this class is to respect each other. Effective learning can only take place in a comfortable, supportive setting. Disrespect will not be tolerated in this classroom. Communication is key. We can work together if there is an obstacle to your learning, but I can't help if I do not know about the issue.
Important Class Information and Policies
Our focus areas for this class are reading, writing, grammar and vocabulary. Expect to be working on at least one of these skills every night for homework. Assignments will be posted on Google Classroom, but please remember to write down assignments in your planner as well. Grades come from a variety of assessments.
Major assessments are weighted at 50%
Minor assessments are weighted at 45%
District assessments are weighted at 5%
Cheating and Plagiarism: All assigned work must be done independently unless specifically assigned as a pair or group assignment. Copying someone else’s words without giving them credit is considered plagiarism or cheating. Cheating deprives you of your own education. Cheating doesn’t help you learn, and we are here to learn. Additionally, giving your work to someone to copy is also considered cheating. Why risk getting a zero by giving away your hard work? The minimum punishment for cheating will be a zero on that assignment. Students are not permitted to “work together” or “work collaboratively” on individual assignments. All individual work must be original work.
Absences: If you are absent, please check Google Classroom for any assignments you have missed.
Reassessment: You may reassess ONE assessment each marking period up to a 70%, if you feel you perform below your expectations. If you would like the opportunity to reassess, you need to discuss your assessment first with Mrs. Morley.
Cell Phones: Cell phone use is NOT permitted in class. Your phone should be kept in your backpack or pocket during class.
