I am Mrs. Cathie Morgan, an artist and art teacher from southern New Jersey. My work is inspired by my childhood, dreams, and my observations of nature and architecture. My teaching plays to my art passions for 3D structures in ceramics and sculpture, as well as photography in its numerous forms.
In addition to teaching at Cherry Hill East, I am the advisor for Art Club and PAVAS, and administrator of the EastArt Instagram and Twitter pages. Check us out @eastart08003!
My mother is an amazing role model. She is a retired hospice nurse who has an incredible capacity for kindness and caring for others. One thing we love to do together is go on art adventures. Here we are in Chicago's Grant Park for the Botero Sculpture Exhibition.
I loved to play sports when I was growing up in Wheeling, WV. I played soccer, softball, ice hockey, and ran track. In that era, there were very few sports for girls, so I often played on the boys teams. Here my friend , Julie, and I are shown as the only girls on the team.
On April 2020, a derecho storm hit my neighborhood and blew over many trees. I was actually caught in the storm and knocked over by one! Luckily, there were no serious injuries. A few weeks later, on a bright sunny day, a damaged branch fell out of a huge tree and smashed my car. This was by far the strangest event that happened to me during quarantine. Here are Mollie and Finn under one of the fallen trees.
Students will use symbols and design elements to communicate ideas about their interests and personality;
My sketch shows my interest in nature and photography. The flower, Morning Glory symbolizes summer and I love the way the plants wanders and twists in its environment. The eye and hand are prominent because of my life as an artist. The mountains and trees in the background portray the beauty of nature and the landscape of West Virginia, where I am from.
Infographic using Canva
Students will understand the basic elements of graphic design using Canva to create an Infographic about themselves.
An infographic is a visual image such as a chart or diagram used to represent information or data. Infographics are an easy, attractive way to transform your ideas into amazing visual content sources. In a 3D Art class, why do I need to work on my digital skills? As an artist today, being digitally savvy is a must. You will need to be able to express yourself using social media, websites, and various digital programs. Although we focus on "soft skills" in 3D Art, meaning "hands on" fine art like ceramics and sculpture, being digitally skilled is really important to be relevant in the art world today.
My Infographic tells a story about me in terms of my art and teaching profession and how it pertains to my everyday life. The main focus is on things I love, such as family, teaching, education, the arts and my free time.
I chose the visual elements of a contrasting color scheme and simple color graphics to tell my story.
The goal of my Infographic is to introduce myself to my students and tell a memorable story for them to get to know me.
