In this course, you will build literacy and communicative abilities in French/Italian through a variety of activities. We will get to know one another - our preferences, interests, strengths, and passions. We will also explore content-specific topics as you integrate the knowledge you’ve gained in previous semesters through meaningful, contextualized communication in accordance with national and state standards for World Language education.
You will continue to build basic communication skills and develop academic language proficiency as you strengthen reading and writing habits. You will also develop valuable self-assessment and reflection skills.
Assessment in this course honors the progression of second language learning—from listening, to reading, to writing, and eventually speaking. At the novice level, student assessment focuses primarily on interpretive skills—listening and reading. These are the skills most critical to language acquisition. At the appropriate time in the course of study (the intermediate levels) student writing and speaking will be assessed.

I expect each and every assignment to be completed.
I WILL NEVER give an assignment for which you have not been given the tools.
Your main tools are always your notes taken during each and every class and the anchor charts
The use of translation websites is DISHONEST.
Having a native language speaker provide responses for you is DISHONEST.
I expect each student to present only his or her own work. This is the hallmark of academic integrity.
In this course, your work is to actively process the language input in class. When you miss class, you are required to replicate that experience by engaging with input as specified by me. This may include watching recordings of comprehensible materials, or reading materials developed in class and completing comprehension activities.
Class materials and course calendar will be updated regularly via Google Classroom. If you are absent, it is your responsibility to find out what you’ve missed by looking in the class folder, copying & translating the material from the day you missed, and checking with me via email whether you need to make up a Formative Assessment.
Students in Honors have enrichment assignments which can be found here.
Most homework will be accepted late with no penalty, unless the assignment is needed for an in-class discussion----we can not discuss your work if it isn't ready for the session it is needed for.
