About Me

My name is Thomas Dean-Rouse, I'm a junior at Chapel Hill Highschool, and I have always loved drawing and just being artistically creative in general. This lead me to become really interested in animation and learning how to do it. So wanting to learn I took 3D Modeling & Animation freshman year to get an idea of what it was like and it just went from there.

My strongest skills are definitely graphic design and everything surrounding that like the adobe apps or composition and color. I haven't done any game projects yet, but I have done a lot of graphic design and video projects, so I would like to highlight my video projects where I had to work in groups. For these projects I always took the role of editor which I liked to do to really get to chose how the project looks, either with cropping the shots to change the composition or color grading, or doing the sound design were I can make the atmosphere I would like. This is what I want to do in this class with my projects, making a unique and cool atmosphere.

Approaching a new project for me really depends on what ideas I have going into it and work  flow differs from project to project. However, for most projects I begin already having a concept and and an idea of what I want to, so my process is more of just fleshing out these ideas. The main way to flesh out my ideas to look at inspiration to help me get going. What inspires me most is definitely film and graphic novels. This connects to what I want in my future, I would love to work in filmmaking or animation industries and I feel this class is a good gateway or start to learn skills in this field. For example movie and show productions are starting to shift over to Unreal Engine for filmmaking, so getting some experience in Unreal would be super helpful in pursing in one of those careers.
