My name is Rhiannon Ewing, and I am a student aiming to pursue digital art. I enjoy engaging in artistic media such as games and shows and studying the details in the art that makes up the world.
I was inspired to pursue digital art because I don't believe that there is enough appreciation for the art that builds up the world. I have always been fascinated by art in media such as books, shows, movies, and videogames. Finding love in the details and thought behind those works of art made me want to make my own art, and I want to create more interesting characters and environments of my own to share with the world.
My artistic philosophy is to create what I love; I see art as an outlet of expression to share my imagination with the world. Because of that, I want to use my tools as an artist to put effort and thought into the things I care about, and I want to be able to work on things that interest me. Because I feel closely connected with my artworks, I want them to remain something of my own, and I want them to be works that I can be proud of.
What are your strongest skills (e.g., character modeling, environment design, texturing, animation)? Currently none.
Do you have any experience with coding or game mechanics (e.g., scripting in Unreal Engine, Unity, or custom shaders)? Currently none.
I have completed several projects for school in my digital design classes throughout high school, and I have worked on personal projects for my own enjoyment in my free time. Most of my personal projects consist of digital art made for fun or to practice my art skills, but I have also worked on projects in school such as making paintings and sculptures or designing posters for school plays.
Are there any standout projects you want to highlight? Currently none.
Have you worked on any team projects, and what was your role? Currently none.
I approach new projects mainly with broad concepts or ideas, focusing on the aspects most important to me. When research is possible, I try to spend some time researching the subject to accurately portray certain pieces of the concept. From there, I usually draw out a few thumbnail sketches to decide on a design that I feel works best, and once I choose one, I make a final sketch. After I am happy with my sketch, I work on creating the final piece.
My work is usually inspired by media such as shows of videogames that I like the visuals of. Some specific games that inspire me are slime rancher and Okami, as I like the detailed visuals and creative styles used in those games. I also get inspired by artworks that I see randomly throughout my days, be it a book cover, a painting in a museum, or a social media post; I feel like seeing so many styles and ideas, even if they aren't connected, inspires me to try out new things in my own artworks.
My long term goals for digital art are to become a professional digital artist in the future. I would like to be able to work with a team on digital art, especially in a field of game design where I could help to design and build character models or environments.
