What’s that blue folder in my child’s backpack?
That blue folder is our way of communicating back and forth between home and school. It is important that you check it every day for homework, time-sensitive forms, and community information. Anything you want to give to us should go in it as well. If it’s not in the folder, chances are we probably will not receive it as things tend to get lost in backpacks.
How does lunch work? Do they eat in the room or the cafeteria?
Every day at 12:30pm, we walk down to the cafeteria for lunch. Your child can bring a lunch from home or buy it from the lunch line. Lunch money needs to be loaded on your child's account through the K12 Payment Center. You can send a check or cash and we can add it to their account. A menu goes home each month and can also be found here.
Do you have snack?
Yes! Because we have lunch at 12:30pm, by mid-morning kindergarteners ARE hungry! Please send a nutritious snack with your child in easy-to-open containers. Examples of nutritious snacks are pretzels, goldfish, applesauce pouches, gogurts, fruit, vegetables, granola, crackers, etc. We will be eating outside on the kindergarten playground.
Do kindergartners nap?
No, but we will have a scheduled break to do quiet, calming activities like yoga and read alouds through mid-October.
How can I support the classroom?
Please go to the "Want to Help?" page to find the link to your child's teacher's needs!
I ask what’s going on at school and all I hear is “Nothing.” What’s happening?
A LOT! Each teacher has a system of keeping her class' families in the know! Be on the lookout for emails and newsletters!
Can I bring cupcakes and have a little school party for my child’s birthday?
Birthdays are a BIG deal in kindergarten and we try to treat their special day accordingly! Unfortunately, the district nutrition policy does not allow for the big birthday food celebrations with cake, juice, toys, games, and other super fun things. However, just like any other day of the year, you ARE allowed to donate healthy snacks. We are more than happy to offer an extra special healthy snack from the birthday child to all of their classmates at snack time.
My child woke up with a fever/throwing up/sniffling/with a stomach ache! Do I need anything from school?
No, but you do need to call 969-2435 ext 62000 and leave a message. Children who vomit or have fevers of 100 degrees or higher will be sent home and can only return to school when he/she has been vomit/fever free for 24 hours without medication. If your child has a contagious disease, a doctor’s note is required saying that it is okay to come back to school.
Something has changed!
If anything at home has changed for the day, temporarily, or permanently with ANYTHING that affects a smooth and successful day getting to, at, or leaving school, let us know! The most frequent change is a dismissal change. You MUST put a note in the blue folder or send an email BY 11:00am. After 11:00am, you MUST call Kelly Glosson in the front office at 969-2435 ext 62100 to let us know. We cannot guarantee that we will receive your email in time for dismissal. If there is no note, email, or phone call to the front office, we will send them the way they normally go even if your child is telling us otherwise. And that’s no fun for anyone!
