3D Modeling & Animation

Snowman - 9/10/2025
This was the first model that I created using 3ds Max. Because of this, it was specifically challenging. I had never made a 3d model before, so I had to completely learn everything from scratch. I am very proud of this model as a result, because I had zero previous experience. I made this model from only primatives of various sizes, which I moved into different positions and combined with other primitives to create the snowman. I learned fundamental ideas when building this model, which I have used for every one of the models I have created since, such as moving and scaling primatives. This model does not necessarily reflect my current skill level, but it is an important step in my journey and therefore is one of my favorite models I have made.
Spaceship - 9/29/2025
This is my spaceship model, which was created from a single box. This was the first model I completely created on my own, in which edit poly was used. As such, it is a critical step in my development. I used edit poly to transform a single box into a spaceship, by manipulating edges, vertices, and polygons. Using and learning edit poly was a crucial turning point in the quality of my models, as I learned how I could have much more control over my models and how I wanted them to look. This model would have been effectively impossible without utilizing edit poly. I have since used this critical tool on all further models.
Sword - 10/23/2025
This is the model I am most proud of, and also the one I think looks the best. This model best showcases my skill, and I think is the most complicated. This project showcases three skills that were not present in my previous models. Firstly, I rendered this image instead of screenshotting my workspace. This allows me to get higher quality images future models. Secondly, I used lighting to present my model, which allows me to better present my object, and create an atmosphere. Third, I used materials to create a more realistic look for the sword. I made the blade look like steel, reflecting light, and the handguard and pommel gold. I made the gems reflect light, contributing to the more realistic look. Together, these contributed to a more realistic and aesthetically pleasing look, and the model I like the most.
Still Life - 11/10/2025
This is the first scene that I created using custom textures. Before, my work did not feature custom textures and material. They were limited to presets, which do not allow much customization. I used the material editor to create the materials used in this scene. I also learned how to use bitmaps in the material editor to import custom textures. I applied the knowledge that I learned from this model, creating custom textures and materials, to every single future project that I created, as it allows me to have a greater degree of customization and increase the fidelity of my models significantly.
Lego Indiana Jones - 12/2/2025
This Lego Indiana Jones figure that I created demonstrates another new skill that I learned this quarter, using UVWs to create custom specific textures. Before, I could create custom textures, but I did not have much fine control over how the texture gets applied to my models. Using unwrap UV, I am now able to place textures exactly where I want them. Using UVW and unwrap UV is something that I applied to all future projects, such as the tank I created for my PBM. I am proud of this peice becuase the character I created looks extremely realistic, and by using unwrap UV I was able to place specific textures in specific locations.
PBM - 1/12/2026
This is my final project, and I am proud of this piece because it demonstrated all of my skills. For the first time, I was able to create an animation. This represents a significant jump in in my skills, and demonstrates my new skills in 3ds Max. If I create any future projects, it is almost certain they will be animations, so this skill is critical going forward. Compared to my previous pieces, this piece is much more complex. This is because previous pieces were designed to emphasize one specific skill, while this project was intended to show all skills that I have learned in 3ds Max.
