Hello! My name is Josh McEwen and I am currently studying 3D Modeling in hopes to pursue Game Design if my theater dreams don't work out. I've always loved coding. Ever since I was young I was enthralled by the idea of making my own video games! I had a falling out with coding around covid due to many reasons, but recently I've worked more on the coding side of personal projects and it's reinvigorated my passion for game design! My artistic design policy is to start by making something that may not be pretty but is functional, then over time improving it into a more finished final project. I also highly value organization in my tasks, having google documents of issues or missing features in games I gradually comb through.
The tool I am most proficient with is Adobe Premier Pro as I have nearly 5 years of experience in video editing software. But in terms of 3d modeling and game design I have some experience in Blender, and I am certified in Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator. With my limited experience with 3d modeling I would say my greatest skill is environmental design, though that is very subject to change. I have some experience in Python and I also have a ton of experience coding in the custom Minecraft coding language Script working on a very large personal project mentioned in the next paragraph.
As for projects I am the owner of one of the largest custom coded Minecraft events in the scene called Fruit Wars. I manage a team of 17 people currently (30 total) and have been the sole owner of the event ever since 2022. I have done basically every position for the event possible, but currently I both manage and code for it. In addition during covid I began developing a full pick your own adventure game in Python. Unfortunately the choose your adventure project was canceled when I quit coding lessons, but Fruit Wars is still in development to this day
Whenever I start a new project, whether that's in Minecraft or in digital art, I usually wait until I get a clear image in my head of what I want the project to be. Then I just, do it, starting with the most basic parts and slowly making it cooler and cooler. I use google docs to track my progress and what I need to do and I update my core concept as I go along with what's most realistic to the projects scope. Inspiration for me normally comes naturally when I see something and think I can do it differently to make something unique and fun.
My long term goal for Game Design and Video Design is for these to be backup plans if my current dreams of making a living in acting don't work out. I know I have the work ethic and the creativity to succeed in this field, I just need the experience and knowledge.
