Clever is an online student portal, or landing page, that provides a single location for students to access all digital content needed for their classes. The Clever Student Portal provides more streamlined access to online programs.
For this class, you will access our e-book ¡Qué chévere!, and its suite of apps, through Clever. Most of the other apps and resources described here are linked to Clever in one way or another. Additionally, and very importantly, Clever allows me to see who signs in, when they signed in, how much time is spent in the various resources and what work has been submitted. I will use Clever to gauge the appropriate level of interaction for each student as a means of accountability.
Classroom is designed to help teachers create and collect assignments paperlessly, including time-saving features like the ability to automatically make a copy of a Google Document for each student. It also creates Drive folders for each assignment and for each student to help keep everyone organized.
Students can keep track of what's due on the Assignments page and begin working with just a click. Teachers can quickly see who has or hasn't completed the work, and provide direct, real-time feedback and grades right in Classroom.
For this class, documents and assignments will be posted in Google Classroom daily. It is the hub of communication, therefore this is where students should begin their Spanish work five days out of the week. Documents and websites will be linked to this Google site. Assignments posted in Google Classroom will be submitted in Google Classroom unless instructed otherwise. You must be signed into only your school email account for Google Classroom to function correctly. I will not use the gradebook feature for official grades. In fact, most of the assessments posted will be ungraded. All official grades will be posted in PowerSchool.
This online revision website uses digital flashcards and study packs so that students can test their knowledge on a whole range of topics from English, science, math, history and more. It identifies areas where a student is struggling and adapts its courses to address any difficulties. It's almost like having a tailor made teacher in the room.
For this class, vocabulary and some grammar topics will have accompanying Quizlet flashcards, which will be linked in Google Classroom. The vocabulary is created by the textbook company but I will add review vocabulary to each deck. It is an expectation that you use Quizlet to study vocabulary for at least 10 minutes every day. You are welcome to make your own Quizlet flashcards or duplicate mine to help you study, take notes and review old vocabulary. We will walk through the join process during the first few days so you have access to my flashcard sets. The primary function of Quizlet is to help you build your reading proficiency but it also has elements of building listening proficiency (both are interpretive skills).
Edpuzzle is a free assessment-centered tool that allows teachers and students to create interactive online videos by embedding either open-ended or multiple-choice questions, audio notes, audio tracks, or comments on a video.
For this class, you will have assignments in Edpuzzle that will help you build your listening proficiency. They will be automatically linked to and show up as assignments in Google Classroom. After you finish an Edpuzzle assignment and submit it in Edpuzzle, check Google Classroom to verify it has also been submitted there. You must use your school email account to access assignments in Edpuzzle. Though the assignments will show up in Google Classroom's gradebook, not all of the activities will be graded.
Flipgrid is a website that allows teachers to create "grids" to facilitate video discussions. Each grid is like a message board where teachers can pose questions, called "topics," and their students can post video responses that appear in a tiled grid display. Modeled after popular social media platforms popular with young people, Flipgrid empowers social learning in PreK to PhD classrooms around the world.
For this class, we will use Flipgrid for activities that closely model the way in-person class is conducted, that is to say building interpersonal proficiency. There will be assignments at least once a week that students will have to post and respond to classmates.
Edulastic is an online assessment tool used in conjunction with our online textbook.
For this class, you will download the Kiosk mode to use Edulastic with your Chromebook. We will do this in the first month of school. Some of the graded assessments for the course will be conducted through Edulastic.
