My name is Dylan Abernathy and I am a student at Chapel Hill High School. I have been inspired to pursue digital art to make my own artwork and potentially pursue my own independent art carrier through designing posters or even album covers. My artistic philosophy involves making my characters or environments busy and/or chaotic to fully immerse them into the world or artwork I create.
I am currently an experienced artist in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop, as well as procreate. When it comes to my skills, I feel the most comfortable when making 2D designs and posters and building environments, as these skills I have practiced in my own personal art projects as well as for school assignments like when I was in Honors Adobe Visual Design I. I currently have no experience in coding or game mechanics.
I have created and worked both personal and school assigned artworks over the past year, with most school artworks being digital posters and most personal artworks being traditional visual art like sketches and collage. One specific school project I am proud of was my Capstone project for Honors Adobe Visual Design I. The assigned goal of the Capstone project was to create advertisements and logos for a fictional hot sauce brand named Wildflame Sauces. I feel like this is one of my strongest digital art projects because of how I was able to be as creative and out there as I wanted to be in my designs, leading to me creating very vibrant and busy with my designs and advertisements. I have not made any collaborative projects or artworks both in and out of school at the moment.
When approaching a new project, I tend to lean towards making my designs busy and expressive. I try to achieve this by using vibrant colors and patterns through tools and effects like chromatic aberration in procreate and gradients in adobe illustrator. I draw most of my influence from the artist and musician Brian Chippendale, a providence based artist who makes prints and collages and has two main musical projects, those being Black Pus and Lightning Bolt.
My long term goals in digital art is to pursue art as a career, and be well versed in many mediums of art so I can express myself In multiple ways. For 3D modeling, my long term goals are being able to build my own environments and characters in a 3d space, which I can use to help me visualize the world I want to make in a 3d setting. For game design, my long term goals would be being able to make and help work on video games in a professional setting.
