Our first unit of the year is entitled Choices. In this unit we will read literary and informational texts to explore whether or not our choices can help us become the author of our lives. This unit will mainly focus on reviewing and building foundational reading skills (i.e. making inferences, using context clues, determining the theme/main idea of a text, summarizing, and examining cause and effect relationships between characters/setting/plot within a narrative). The end task project for this unit requires students to write a one-act screenplay where their main character has to make an impactful decision in regards to a societal cause.
