FAQs

What should I do about my child's medications?

We will have a station during the check in process to turn in medications.

Please have your students meds in a ziplock bag, with their name on it . We'll place stickers on each bag during check in with proper instructions.

Will my child be safe?

We do several things to ensure the safety of your students during our trip! Each adult leader who volunteers with children, birth - high school, is background checked.

Each room a student stays in will be next to the room of an adult leader. Students are to always travel in groups of at least 3.

These groups must always either be with an adult leader, or let them know where they will be.

Why can't my student take their cell phone?

Students can do a lot of things with their phones. During a trip like this, it is very difficult to ensure that each student is using their devices in a proper way. Phones also can serve as a large distraction during an event like this in which one of the main focuses is to get away from the usual distractions of life. We've made the decision to prohibit our students taking their phones to MIX to remove temptations/distractions from them, help them focus, be present with their youth group, and have a better trip!

What if I need to contact my student?

Should an emergency arise, please contact Nick Enabnit, our trip leader.

Emergency Contact #: 505-803-2352 (Nick)

When will you return?

We're aiming for Noon on Friday, the 28th. We'll post our ETA on Social media that morning so that you have a better idea. Speaking of which- be our friend!

Who will my student room with?

We won't have a rooming chart until the we get closer the event, do to drops and additions. We can't promise any student they will be with a specific friend, but we can promise they will be able to have fun during the day with their friends! We'll sleep in our rooms, and be out and about most other times.

Are there scholarships available for this event?

Yes. We have a limited number of scholarships available. Any scholarship will only be up to half the total cost of the trip. No full scholarships are available. You must apply for a scholarship by filling out the scholarship form at chjoplin.org/register. All scholarship applications will be reviewed and awarded as deemed appropriate by the ministry leadership.

In order to preserve resources for those in serious need, we encourage you to apply for a scholarship only if absolutely necessary, and to exhaust all other options of coming up with the money.

Can we sponsor another student to attend, or donate to the scholarship fund?

YES! Thank you for your generosity. We recognize that these trips can be very expensive, especially for families with multiple kids who want to attend.

If you’d like to sponsor a specific student to attend, we recommend working that out with the individual and their family directly.

If you’d like to donate to the youth trip scholarship fund (in general, or a particular ministry), you can bring a check or cash to the youth office, and we’ll make sure it gets to the right place!

What if we can’t pay for the trip at all?

We encourage you to ask your friends and family if they can help! Students can also seek out jobs to help earn the money necessary for the trip (babysitting, lawn mowing, etc.). Students also frequently use their birthday or other gift money to help pay for trips, or request trips as gifts for those occasions.

Trips like these happen every summer, so we also encourage families to plan their budget with these expenses in mind, as they would any family, school, or extracurricular activity that has fees associated with it.

When do the kids “move up” into their new grades?

June 2 (the Sunday before VBS) is “Promotion Sunday”, when students move up into their new grades and ministry departments / programs. So by the time this trip takes place, all the 5th grade students will have “moved up” into the middle school ministry. For example, if you have a 5th grader the Spring of 2019, once promotion happens (June) they will from then on be considered a Middle Schooler! Or if you have an 8th grader in school Spring of 2019, you’re going to want to look at the MOVE trip for grades 9–12.
