Welcome to the school counselor's page for Lyerly Elementary School! My name is Courtney DeKarske, and this is my sixth year as the school counselor. I am from Chattooga County and graduated from the Chattooga County School System. I received my Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood and Elementary Education as well as my Masters Degree in School Counseling from Jacksonville State University. In addition to my current degrees, I am also gifted certified. It pleases me greatly to be able to return to my home school system to work with the students and their families who attend LES.

As the school counselor, I am here to advocate for students in the areas of social/emotional health, academic performance, and college and career readiness. Some of the topics students find they need help with are friendship problems, peer pressure, stress and anxiety, grief and loss, family problems, homework, classroom concerns, and study skills.
