ACCEPTED COMMUNITY SERVICE FOR THE 2025 - 2026 ACADEMIC YEAR

    "In-School"

All CHS Sponsored Events & Service Learning Projects

All official CHS Extra-Curricular Club Volunteerism

  "Out-of-School"

All Fundraisers (not the act of donating; rather, organizing/orchestrating/facilitating with fundraisers), Community Service, & Service Learning Projects that take place outside of Chatham High School which can include the following: 

1. Hospitals  and Assisted Living Facilities

2. Religious service projects 

3. First Aid/Fire Departments including EMT training

4. Girl Scouts/Boy Scouts/4H – community events only (not meetings), most Eagle scout projects (please check with NHS advisor)

5. Habitat for Humanity

6. Columbia-Greene Humane Society/SPCA

7. Public Libraries

8. Sports Camps - volunteer service only 

9. Mission/Relief work projects 

10. Soup Kitchens

Types of Volunteer work that are NOT considered community service by the NHS Faculty Council:

1. Service at a private doctor’s office

2. Service at a private law firm or insurance office

3. Service at a family-owned business or private business of any type. This includes: 

   1. Private tutoring (not done through an established organization)

   2. Private Babysitting (unpaid or paid)

   3. Helping a neighbor (not through an established organization)*

4. Internships (personal development is not community service)

5. Political Campaigns

6. Job Training or CIT/ Counselor in Training - Job training is considered as getting ready for a paid position and therefore is not considered volunteer work even if unpaid.
