While the district has provided laptops for students to use to further their education, parents are ultimately responsible for establishing and enforcing good technology habits.
It is my goal to utilize student laptops and resourcefully and judiciously. As often as possible, assignments will be uploaded and submitted to Google Classroom. I do, however, believe there is strong evidence to support the idea that activities involving writing are better remembered; therefore, we will read and take notes in both paper and electronic form.
Students are encouraged to utilize the following online resources:
Google Calendar - you can even set up text or email notifications.
Google Drive - keep files synced (and saved when you turn in your laptops at year's end).
Major assignments with predetermined due dates, such as tests, papers, and projects, will be marked down 10% for each day that the assignment is late (e.g., 2 days late = 20 points from 100-point total) with a 3-tardy-day limit. A zero will be placed in the grade book for any graded assignments missed until the work is turned in.
Daily assignments (homework and classwork) can be submitted one day after its due date with a 50% tardy penalty.
Homework is due at the beginning of class or by the Google Classroom timestamp.
Missing school for any extracurricular activity is not an excuse to turn in any assignment late. You must turn in the assignment on the previous day or before you leave campus for the activity on the day the assignment is due. For all other types of absences, previously scheduled tests, quizzes, and projects are due before or on the assigned due date unless other arrangements have been confirmed with the teacher in advance.
It is the student’s responsibility to find out what was turned in during an absence; refer to my Google Classroom or Google Doc agenda. Moreover, the student should check with me upon return to school to verify missing assignments. A zero will be placed in the grade book for any graded assignments missed until the work is turned in. It is not the teacher’s responsibility to remind the student about make-up work.
Following an absence, students should see their teacher to make up daily work (classwork, homework, quizzes) or to schedule a make-up timeframe not to exceed five school days. A zero will be placed in the grade book for any graded assignment missed until the work is completed.
If a student is absent for an announced test, the student has three school days to make up the test or the student will receive a zero. Per Chatham County policy, if a student was present when a test was announced, the student will be expected to take the test as scheduled despite any intervening absences. If possible, students and/or parents should communicate with the teacher PRIOR to the test day if any mitigating circumstances arise. A zero will be placed in the grade book for any graded assignments missed until the work is made up
Any student who skips any class will be assigned a zero for all work due on the day the skipping incident occurred.
Cell phone usage and visibility is prohibited during class time.
The wearing of hats and hoodies is not allowed during class time.
