Mission Statement

The mission of Chatham County Schools’ AIG / Advanced Learning Program is to challenge all learners who perform or have the potential to perform at higher levels than their same-age peers and to support the social-emotional development of the advanced learners in our school community.


Vision Statement

The Chatham County Schools AIG / Advanced Learning Program, through collaboration and a data-driven approach, will support and work with educators to meet the needs of AIG / advanced learners.  Our AIG / advanced learners will engage in challenging and rigorous learning activities to create critical, independent thinkers.

To provide our middle school students with additional opportunities for advanced instruction, Chatham County Schools offers students who meet certain criteria the opportunity to enroll in advanced math courses.

Criteria:

6th Grade Advanced Math: A level 5 on the 5th grade EOG OR  a score in the 80th percentile or higher on the 5th grade EOG and a score in the 90th percentile or higher on a STAR assessment given in the second semester.

7th Grade Advanced Math: A level 5 on the 6th grade EOG OR a score in the 80th percentile or higher on the 6th grade EOG and a minimum score in the 90th percentile or higher on a STAR assessment given in the second semester.

7th Grade Math 1: A score in the 95th percentile or higher on the 6th grade EOG and a score in the 95th percentile or higher on a STAR assessment given in the second semester.

8th Grade Math 1: A level 5 on the 7th grade EOG OR a score in the 80th percentile or high on the 7th grade EOG and a minimum score in the 80th percentile or higher on a STAR assessment given in the second semester.

*There are also guidelines for advanced math placement if students do NOT have EOG and STAR data. Please contact bdoulgas@chatham.k12.nc.us for more information.



Above-grade-level math does not count as "advanced math" in high school. The course must have "honors" in the title or be on the list of courses below to be considered advanced math:

NC Math 1 Honors, NC Math 2 Honors, NC Math 3 Honors, Discrete Mathematics Honors, Pre-Calculus Honors, NC Math 4 Honors, AP Calculus AB, AP Calculus BC, AP Computer Science, and AP Statistics




Can my child test out of a class? Credit by Demonstrated Mastery (CDM) is a statewide policy allowing a student to receive credit for high school courses without completing the traditional seat-time requirement.

CDM is currently available for the following courses: English 10, Math 1, Math 2, Math 3, Biology, and Spanish.

CDM is open to all high school students. Middle school students may attempt CDM for any courses listed above that are offered in their middle school.
