Message from the Principal

It is hard to believe that the end of the school year is only weeks away! Throughout the year, your child has learned a tremendous amount of new information and skills. The month of June will provide many opportunities for us to celebrate their accomplishments and prepare them for the next school year ahead.

Grade level teachers have planned and organized exciting activities, such as class picnics, as culminating events to a wonderful school year. During the last few weeks of school, we have also planned some move up days for children in grades kindergarten through second. The children will have the opportunity to visit and meet a classroom teacher from their upcoming grade level. This will give your child the opportunity to learn more about next year’s grade level not only from the teacher, but also from the children who successfully completed that grade. These days were planned with the intent of allowing the transition from one grade level to the next to be smooth and exciting.

We look forward to the return of Field Day on June 1, with a rain date of June 3! Our entire school will be able to participate in activities that promote good exercise and sportsmanship amongst their peers that day. Don’t forget to attend our Milton Mile on June 4, as well as our rescheduled Family Fun Night on June 10!

We look forward to a great last month of school!

Reminder: Please practice these healthy habits with your child as the weather warms up!

  • Always wear a helmet when riding scooters or bicycles. All bicycles and scooters MUST be walked down to the entrance of the school to avoid injury.

  • Sunscreen should be applied at home before school. Sunscreen should not be sent in with your child to apply during the school day as small children tend to rub it into their eyes without supervision.

  • Send plenty of water for your child for the day. Headaches and dehydration can occur easily in higher temperatures.

Stetho-Scoop

A special thank you to the entire school and parent community for your continued communication to help ensure that our students and staff remain healthy this year. Just a reminder that if your child has any illness symptoms, please communicate them to me via email ezotti@chatham-nj.org or by calling the Nurse Office 973-457-2546.

Please continue to enter your child’s absence in the Parent Portal. The absence phone line no longer exists and emails are not acceptable as I may not be in the office on a particular day. Substitute nurses do not have access to emails.

Emergency medication pick-ups: If your child has any emergency medications in the Nurse Office, please make arrangements to pick up their medication by Friday, June 17th at 1:05pm. Medications cannot be sent home in your child’s backpack. Any medication left in the Nurse Office after that date will be disposed of.

Counselor Corner

Dear Milton Families,

I am truly blessed to have spent the past 33 years in public education, 25 of which were in Chatham . I arrived here in 1997 as one of the school counselors at the middle school. I spent 18 years forming bonds and positive connections with thousands of students and families. Many friendships and fond memories are held dear to my heart from my years at CMS.

In 2015, I wanted to transition back to elementary school, which is where my career began, and I was so fortunate to have the opportunity to come to Milton, which has been my second home the past 7 years.

Milton truly is a special place and I have loved being here and working with your children. The staff is amazing and so are the parents. Thank you so much for your dedication and support of our school.

On a personal note, my children received an outstanding education here too!! Not only have I been employed here but I was a resident here as well. Chatham has been a part of our lives for many years, and it is bittersweet to say “so long” as I enter into retirement this summer.

With kindest regards,

Carole Soder
