Individual counseling is a vital support in the school and one of the most important pieces of the school counselor position. Throughout the school year, Ms. Devergillo will provide ongoing contact with students who have social or emotional difficulty. These meetings can be arranged in school or virtually. If you would like to have your child meet virtually, please reach out to me by email at jdevergillo@chatham-nj.org and schedule a 15 minute session at 2:00pm, 2:15pm, 2:30pm or 2:45pm. Please let me know the dates and times you prefer and I will let you know my availability and we will schedule a session. I am looking forward to getting to know the students and best assist during these times.
Any student may see the school counselor by:
Requesting a visit
Being referred by a staff member
Being referred by a parent/guardian.
Some students may have greater needs that go beyond the scope of school counseling. Resources for outside services are available upon request.
*A Note about Confidentiality
During individual and group counseling, students are encouraged to share their feelings, thoughts, and experiences. Since the stories told by young children are unique and sensitive, children are instructed that what they share is confidential, or kept private. Students will be encouraged to share their feelings with their families. It is important that children and parents know that anytime a child tells of a serious situation or danger to themselves, or others, the counselor is required to share this information to appropriate authorities, parents and helping professionals.
