Department of English Language

Needless to say that nowadays the English language plays an important role in all the fields of life. And thus, English department in College of Education, University of Charmo has an important role in preparing efficient and well-prepared teachers to teach successfully at high schools in Kurdistan Region. The aim of this department is bringing the latest and the most up to date knowledge to the students of English department and consequently supplying Kurdish people in Kurdistan Region with high quality and efficient English language teachers.

Background History of English Department:

Under the umbrella of Sulaimani University, the English department was established in the academic year (2008-2009), a year after the initiation of the College of Education- Chamchamal. The core aim of the department was preparing qualified teaching staff of the English language for secondary schools in Kurdistan Region. The academic year 2011-2012 witnessed the first batch of graduates, who were all lucky to smoothly find their permanent positions at public secondary schools. Since 2015, this department has been affiliated with Charmo University without losing its momentum and enthusiasm in providing the educational centers besides the wide range of businesses with highly qualified staff of both male and female graduates.

Mission:

The English Department at Charmo University helps students build knowledge of the content and methods of literary studies, TESOL, English education, and academic writing. Our graduates are well prepared for professional and post-graduate study and for lifelong learning. They pursue careers in education, translation, research, and even business.

Vision:

We seek to instill and foster knowledge and a love of language, literature and education in our students. To this end, we provide students in all emphasis areas with a coherent curricular framework and relevant, well-structured course choices. We teach a variety of linguistic, literary, analytical, pedagogical, and theoretical skills. We teach students the four language skills properly and prepare them on how to teach them effectively. We encourage students to think deeply and to reflect on what they have learned. We encourage a love of learning and an appreciation for a liberal education.

Language of Teaching:

All the subjects are studied in English.

Future Job Opportunities:

The graduates of this department will have various and almost guaranteed future job opportunities in various fields of life. The doors of the government and private sectors will be wide open to welcome them since the English language speakers are expected to have more chances of employment in the different sectors including government and private ones.

Duration of Study:

The BA degree takes four years in EIGHT semesters. Each academic year will run from September to June.
