Charlotte Pride Band is excited to announce
the 2nd Annual Youth Soloist Competition for 2023!!!

The 1st Place Winner will perform with the Charlotte Pride Band on May 13th and will receive a cash prize of $1000!

The 2nd Place Winner will receive a cash prize of $250!

Any woodwind, brass, or percussion players in grades 8 through 12, who reside or study music in North Carolina or South Carolina.

How to Enter the Competition

Selection of Solo with Band Accompaniment

• Along with your band director and/or private teacher, you should select a solo with band accompaniment that is available for purchase.

• NO RENTALS OR ORCHESTRAL ACCOMPANIMENTS will be accepted.

Registration

• Due no later than January 29, 2023 (Extended from 1/20/23.)

• Can be printed and mailed (address in footer; postmarked no later than January 20, 2023) or completed online no later than January 29, 2023.

• Must include:

1. Your essay entitled "The Power of Music in the LGBTQIA+ Community"

2. Your completed registration form including the signatures of your private lesson teacher (if applicable), your band director, and your parent/guardian

(Incomplete registration forms will not be considered.)

Video & Score Submission

• Due no later than February 21, 2023

• Can be mailed (address in footer; postmarked no later than February 21, 2023) or completed online.

• Must include:

  1. Your video (maximum of 15 minutes) of your performance with your accompanist. (If you are mailing the video file, it should be on a flash drive labeled with your name.)

  2. Three copies of the score of the piece you have selected for performance labeled with your name if you are mailing your submission; otherwise, only 1 copy of the score has to be uploaded if you complete the submission online. The score copies will be destroyed after the audition evaluation. The recording becomes property of the Charlotte Pride Band and will not be returned.

• You will receive written feedback on your video performance.

Finalists Announced

• All applicants will be notified of the results for 1st Place and 2nd Place by or on March 13, 2023. The first and second place winners will accept their awards and checks on May 13, 2023.

Performance

• If you are selected for first prize, you will be required to attend 3 Thursday night rehearsals at Park Road Baptist Church, 3900 Park Road, Charlotte, NC, plus the dress rehearsal and perform your piece on May 13, 2023. The first place winner will also receive $1000 and the second place winner will receive $250.
