US Model UN Serve As Chairs at MS CharMUN

Brooks Casey and Sophia Cartafalsa services as Committee Chairs for Middle School Model United Nations hosted by Providence Day. The Charlotte Latin Middle School Delegation did a great job representing the School, and we cannot wait to have them to get to Upper School!
Upper School Delegates stay tuned! Next year, Charlotte Latin will be hosting Middle School CharMUN, and we will need committee chairs!
Are you interested in attending a winter MUN conference?

We hope to attend for both MUNCH (Model UN Chapel Hill) and DUMUN (Duke Model UN). The cost of attending each conference will be $300-$500--the final price will be dependent on the number of delegates and favorable lodging.
MUNCH: Friday, February 24-Sunday, February 26, 2023. We will leave school early Friday morning and return home early afternoon Sunday.
DUMUN: Friday, March 30-Saturday, April 1. We will leave school early Friday morning and return home Saturday evening.
In addition to the conference itself, delegations will be required to attend two mandatory prep meetings in advance of each conference.

Friday, November 11: 4:00 PM to 8:30 PM (pasta dinner provided )
Saturday, November 12: 9:00 PM to 4:30 PM (boxed lunch with choice of sandwich or salad)
REGISTRATION CLOSES FRIDAY, OCTOBER 21!
Registration Fee: $25 per student delegate. It is important that you commit to attending this conference if you register because each committee role is important to the success of the conference.
Delegates should arrive with their printed position paper and bring a refillable water bottle.

We have had great feedback from CLS MUN-ers on their experiences with Best Delegate virtual conferences. This summer, they will also offer in-person conferences as well--the Washington DC camps are posted below--but they also offer camps in Boston and LA. I hope you will consider participating. If you need guidance on which level would be best for you, please speak with Mr. Ivey or Ms. Siczek. Attending a Best Delegate camp makes you immediately eligible for travel conferences.

Anish Wins Best Delegate!

Anish took advantage of Best Delegate's virtual conference this spring and earned Best Delegate at the March 19 training conference. Representing Afghanistan in the UN Human Rights Council, Anish led his bloc in putting forth resolutions on refugee integration, crime, and migrant smuggling.

CharMUN VIII (October 15-16)
We will send a 13 -person delegation to this year's conference hosted by Charlotte Country Day. Among the 13, will be three committee chairs: Gabe Stein, Ryan Beam, and Paige Klingenberg. Committee assignments coming this week!
VAMUN XLI (November 5-7) CANCELLED
Unfortunately, no one registered for this conference. We will miss being on the grounds of UVA this fall. Our past delegations have had great experiences at this conference.

Our delegation will depart campus Friday morning and return Sunday evening.
Delegation size limited to 12 and all delegates must have prior US MUN conference experience (CharMUN meets this requirement).
Estimated cost: $450 and includes roundtrip transportation on CLS minibus, two nights accommodations (2 person/room per COVID protocol), delegate fees, and a delegate dinner. Final conference costs will be finalized once accommodations finalized.
IMPORTANT COVID CONSIDERATION: Only fully vaccinated students may room together; unvaccinated students would need to room separately with their parent.

Charlotte Country Day will host CharMUN VIII. This is a great learning conference--all experience levels welcome.
Friday, October 15: 4:00 PM to 8:30 PM (outdoor pizza dinner provided)
Saturday, October 16: 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM (outdoor boxed lunch provided)
Students are responsible for their own transportation to/from the CCDS campus. Registration costs = $25/delegate.
COVID protocols for everyone's safety:
All conference participants are required to be fully vaccinated by the start of the conference (October 15).
Masks will be worn indoors at all times, by students and adults, including when speaking.
Food and beverages will be consumed outside.
All conference communication (delegate notes) will be done electronically. Delegates should arrive with fully charged phones and devices.
Please register by Thursday, September 30th.
