Mating Pieces Task:
Create two mating pieces that form a rectangular block that is flat on all sides when assembled.
Each assembled block needs to be 1.5”x3”x2” when assembled.
Each mating piece needs to have at least two extruded shapes (one circle and square) that are 1” high along with the corresponding cutouts for your partner's block.
Each person must use their own Fusion360 file and 3D print it when you are confident your design will fit together correctly.
You have to complete this task without creating a 2D drawing or sharing files.
For this task, I was partner with Katia and Kathryn. Since we have three people in the group, we are required to have three pieces to make the block. I designed the middle part of the puzzle.
I first waited for Katia and Kathryn to finish their pieces so that I can reference it and designed the pieces accordingly. At first, I did the exact dimensions they have on their pieces. However, later we found out that we need to add some clearance to the dimensions so the sticking out parts can actually fit in to the holes. Then, I added 0.01 inch to each side of the square and the diameter of the circles for the holes and decrease teh dimesnions of the square and the circle by 0.01 inch for the sticking out parts. Kathryn adjusted her piece according to my dimensions. She did 0.02 inch clearance for her piece.
After we printed out ours, we found that our pieces fit together perfectly. We noticed a few difference due to the different clearances we have. Katia's piece and mine fit together super tight while it is easy to pull Kathryn's piece and mine apart.
