I submitted my application late or I missed the deadline, can I still be considered for Fall 2026?
It is unlilkely (but possible) that we will have seats available for late applications.
Applications received late will not be considered for Fall 2026 unless space becomes available after May 15, 2026.
We will post a notice on our website (and here) about the possibility of accepting late applications, with instrecutions if it is possible.
My original letter of acceptance for the University says my major is "Pre-Architecture." What does that mean?
Pre-architecture is a temporary status given to applicants who declare an interest in the major when they apply to the University. They maintain that status until the School of Architecture makes its decision on the secondary application, which happens after the initial letter that says "Pre-Architecture" is issued. Pre-Architecture is not a major that students can take, but rather only a designation given to applicants interested in the Architecture major. Once the admissions cycle is over, students accepted into the Architecture program become "Architecture" majors automatically, and students not accepted into the Architecture program but who still attend UNC Charlotte become undeclared majors automatically, and they may then select a different major. No student will remain in "Pre-Architecture" once they are enrolled.

Congratulations! Complete your Intent-to-Enroll process in your Future 49er Portal.
The deadline to commit (in order to save your seat) is May 1, 2026.
We will contact you in early-to-mid January with dates and registration information for our optional Admitted Students events, both in-person and virtual.
I was accepted into the Architecture program, but I am no longer interested in the program, what do I do?
If you still plan to enroll at UNC Charlotte in a different major, use the Major Change Request button in your Future 49er Portal.

I was accepted into the Architecture program, how do I request advanced placement?
Advanced placement is rare, but possible if an applicant has completed extensive coursework in architectural design at another institution. If you think you may be eligible, email us at soa-admissions@charlotte.edu.

Please do not contact the SoA to inquire about your application (we will not be able to provide any specific information until we issue our decision letters).

I was denied admission into the program, am I still accepted into UNC Charlotte?
I was denied admission into the program, can I appeal or get feedback on why I wasn't accepted?
No, the decisions of the SoA admissions committee are final, and the committee does not provide feedback on its decisions. We’re sorry that we were unable to offer you a seat in the program after receiving a very high number of applications this year. The process was extremely competitive.
I was denied admission into the program, can I get advice on what to do next?
Can I reapply to the program after enrolling at UNC Charlotte in a different major or as an undeclared major?
Yes, applicants denied admission into the SoA for Fall 2026 may and who enroll at UNC Charlotte may reapply to our program as an internal, change-of-major applicant for Fall 2027 (admission is only granted for the Fall semester, not Spring or Summer). The process will be very similar to the process this year, and the application process will be the same for external new applicants and internal change-of-major applicants. All applicants (internal and external) compete for the same seats. Please visit our SoA Undergraduate Admissions website in August 2026 to review the application submission process for internal change-of-major applicants.
If I enroll at UNC Charlotte in Fall 2026 in a different major or as an undeclared major, how do I improve my chances to be accepted into the Architecture program for Fall 2027?
Applications are viewed holistically, not for any specific coursework or type of experience. Architecture relates to all subjects, and it is most important for students aspiring to enter our program to study whatever interests them. Applicants will be evaluated on their academic record (so strong grades are important), and on the quality of the exercises that are part of the application process.
In addition to following their curiosities and interests, we suggest that students planning to reapply focus on their General Education requirements. Students should consult with their assigned academic advisor who will assist them with selecting courses based on any general education requirements and their interests.
Although we don't have the capacity to meet with prospective applicants one-on-one, we will offer open houses during the next admission cycle (for Fall 2027) admission starting in Fall 2026 to provide tips and best practices on the application process. Please check our website over the summer for more info on these opportunities to discuss the application process.
Can non-majors take Architecture courses to get ahead in case they are accepted into the program for Fall 2027?
No, courses required by the major are restricted to students in the program. The curriculum of the program is tightly sequenced and bundled, and courses cannot be taken out of sequence before their prerequisite courses or without their co-requisite courses. Students who enter our program as sophomores or juniors are placed into our first-year studio, alongside true freshmen.
Every year, we offer General Education courses (ARCH 1501 or ARCH 1502), which are open to all students, regardless of their major, but these courses are not required for the major.
If I don’t begin the Architecture program as a true freshman, can I still graduate in four years?
Yes, students who enter the program as sophomores or juniors may still graduate as seniors (after four years of college) with a B.A. in Architecture. Students who graduate with only two years of architectural coursework will require a longer graduate program than students with three or four years of coursework in our program in order to earn the accredited M.Arch degree needed for licensure, but there is a pathway to graduation in four years total.
If I wasn’t accepted into the program this year, should I consider earning a different major and pursue architecture in graduate school instead?
Maybe, and it is worth considering. Students with significant transfer credits or early college credits (50 or more credits) are encouraged to consider earning a bachelor's degree in any other major, and then joining us for graduate school. Our graduate program may be pursued either after earning our major or after earning any undergraduate major (the length of the graduate program will vary depending on your earned major, but the graduate degree ultimately earned will be the same). Our graduate program welcomes students with varying amounts of undergraduate architectural education (from none to extensive).
