Data Stewards are students who gain hands-on, real-world experience while making a tangible difference in the community. They work on authentic data projects with nonprofit and public-sector partners, applying classroom knowledge to real challenges in health, human services, and economic development.
Through the program, students:
Build practical, workforce-ready data science skills
Gain experience working with messy, real-world data
Develop communication and storytelling skills for non-technical audiences
Learn to work ethically and responsibly with sensitive community data
Strengthen resumes and portfolios with impactful, mission-driven projects
As a Data Steward, students collaborate directly with nonprofit and public-sector organizations. Students engage with real data, real questions, and real constraints—learning how data science can be used responsibly and effectively in community contexts.
