Securing a grant to fund a program or project can allow you to turn your big ideas into a reality. Grant writing is a learnable skill - it's not a superpower!

This Atkins Library Grants Toolkit was developed "by the library for the library" to empower you to discover, apply for, administer, and report on grants to advance your work goals to support the library's strategic mission.

You don't have to go it alone ...

It is a rare occasion when a grant writer works in a vacuum. Most typically, you will be working on a collaborative team. This means there are a lot of great ideas that will be generated and many hands to help with the work.

There are many individuals at Atkins Library and across campus who are poised and ready to support you in your grant journey!

Atkins Library Colleagues

Becky Croxton, Head of Strategic Analytics & Special Projects, is available to support your grant writing and administration. This is written into her job description!
Talking to others who have "been there and done that" can provide a wealth of valuable information. Many Atkins Library colleagues have led or participated on grant teams, including Tracie Tracie Krumbine, Jon Moore, Jeff McAdams, Catherine Tingelstad, Bob Price, Ryan Harris, and myriad others.

UNC Charlotte Office of Research Services

The UNC Charlotte Office of Research Services (ORS) is your go-to source for external grants.

- Preparing and Submitting the Proposal: The ORS Proposal Development team provides support for the preparation and submission of proposals, including budget development, assistance with processing the proposals through Niner Research, the University’s electronic research administration system, and managing the institutional signature process as the Authorized Organizational Representatives (AORs) of the University. - Award Negotiation: Once a project is funded, the grant then moves to the ORS Contract and Award Negotiation team to support the receipt, negotiation, final execution, and processing into University systems of grant and contract awards, modifications, and related agreements, as well as the development and issuance of outgoing subawards. - Award Management: The ORS Award Management team facilitates the management of external research funding, working with faculty and staff in units across the campus to effectively and efficiently administer their awards. The Award Management team provides guidance on financial management, the use of University systems and processes to process award transactions, review and approval of some types of transactions, interpretation of award terms and conditions, and overall guidance on award management.
- ORS also provides professional development and resources to faculty and staff designed to enhance their success.
